I used to work as a RN in Romania ,being a foreign nurse i have to pass Toefl in order to get my medical licence back. A friend of mine told me that I can apply for California , and this state doesn't require Toefl. I'm very confused and I don't know what to do. I reside in Ohio. Please help me.

Welcome

Moved to a thread on it's own. Where do you plan on working once you meet requirements and passed NCLEX? If Ohio then I would suggest you meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse as you more than likely have to meet their requirements if endorsing license. Are you an immigrant to the US and have a SSN?

i have a SSN and i want to work in Ohio because here I live. Ohio Board OF Nursing require Toefl and its very hard to score 83% in nursing.Without passing Toefl I can't work as a nurse.Do you have any advice ?

If the state requires English exam then even if endorsing you may still have to meet that requirement. At the end of the day they want to ensure that you and patients etc can communicate safely and clearly. If your training was done completely in English then they may waiver it but they are within their rights to expect it.

You are going to have to pass the series of English exams in order to work in Ohio as an RN.

There is no way around this. If you have problems with English, then you need to focus on this first. You also need the English skills to pass the licensing exam that we have here.

Ohio has an English requirement. They also require the CES report before they will look at your application, whether you go thru them for initial licensure or to endorse to them. No one around getting this done and CGFNS will not issue the report without the English since Ohio requires it.

And if your English skills are not good, then how are you going to expect to get hired here and work and function as an RN?

Training in your country for nursing is not offered in English, so you will be required to pass the English in order to be able to get licensed there.

Best of luck to you.

And you will be going for the nursing license, the medical license requires that you graduated from a medical college.

I have also moved your thread to the International Forum since you are going to be applying for licensure as a foreign-trained nurse and have to meet the requirements for same before you will be given permission to sit for the NCLEX exam.

That is actually the final step in the licensing process, and one is unable to apply directly for it.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you for your advice.
