I am a nursing student and have begin to have some slight foot pain. I have had feet issues since before nursing school and even went to a doctor for it and got special insoles (that don't fit in ANY pair of shoes!). I have worn leather Nike Shox for a while now. I ordered them online and realized they are pretty uncomfortable at times (even after wearing them for over a year!). I plan on getting some new shoes soon. Call me vain, but I'd like them to be somewhat nice looking too. I wear compression socks and leggings too. Does anyone have any good tips to save my feet in the long run, or even my legs for that matter?!

Go to a podiatrist, not a family practice doctor. Find a pair of shoes that are deep enough to take the special insert that your podiatrist will prescribe. Wear shoes with the same support all the time - don't go back & forth.
Maybe you can adjust your idea of 'nice looking'? Just a thought.
The compression stockings are a good idea. Make sure they fit well.
I did go to a podiatrist.
You say the insoles didn't fit. Your podiatrist did say to remove the original insoles, right? Did you have shoes that weren't deep enough? I used to always wear SAS shoes. I loved them. But when I started needing the inserts, I found SAS shoes were not deep enough.
I have to be careful here. I don't want the Mods to think I'm giving medical advice. I'm just saying podiatrist and shoes that accept the inserts. :)

I have very positive experience with The Walking Company shoes, insoles and sleeves. Can't say it's cheap, but it definitely works for me. Just do not do it online and be prepared to spend a good hour in their store so that you could try products and see what is working for you.
