I work 12+ hr nites in a small 25 bed hospital. The oncall refused to come in and see the patients he admitted to the floor last night. Of course my luck have it, my pt had an MI about 2 minutes into my admission assessment. Anyhow, in the morning when he came in, we arranged for transfer to a larger facility with a cardiac unit. Before the physician left (1 hr after my shift should have been done) I asked him something about another patient. He replied that "this is not an emergency, I will deal with it later, just remind me" I then preceeded to explain that I was getting ready to leave and just wanted to tie up my loose ends before I left. His answer...."oh I see your one of THOSE nurses" What is one of THOSE nurses???? I thought that was a bit rude. This is the same physician who reminds us all that he is the doctor and we are the nurses.....

Next time he tells you its not an emergency your response can be, "Oh, you're one of THOSE doctors."

I'm "One of those nurses," and so are most of my coworkers. Would he rather have you ask him for what you need while he's there, or call him after he leaves? Next time, you should wait 5 minutes after he leaves, and page him. :angryfire
