Hi all. I'm fairly new at this, and I'm feeling very lost and depressed. So, I was put on investigatory leave back in September 2018 for concerns regarding "handling of narcotic medication". I got this news via a phone call. I was never pulled to the side for concerns about behavior, nor a urine test was asked of me. So, I don't know what my supervisor knows, or if there is any proof of me diverting or anything like that. I am supposed to talk to the chief union rep, and I honestly don't know what to say. Do I admit to diverting, without knowing if the hospital has any proof? Since I had been off work, I received treatment, and am so far 6 + months clean. My friends say "don't reveal too much", cause if they don't know or have anything on you, why ruin a great job. But, I'm torn because I want to live my life with integrity. So, I don't know whether to confess to my union rep or just talk about hypotheticals. This sucks. And it depresses me even more so. Any feedback would be great. Thank you.

Don't admit to anything, get an attorney.
The only time I would now admit to anything is if I were living under a bridge and admitting it would get me 3 hots and a cot (treatment). That does not mean I wouldn't get clean, that just means that I would choose not to go through the hell of monitoring, if I could at all avoid it.
I want to be clear about that. Narcotics is no way to live or be a nurse... getting clean is the best thing you can ever do for yourself.
I'm not surprised that they did not confront you prior to the formal accusation. They are building their case, they don't confront unless they are sure. Still, you have a right to a defense. Don't cheap out, get your own attorney. Unions are great, but you never know if they are bound by some fine print clause that says if you admit to something, they must notify authorities.
Also, this too shall pass. We are here for you! Deep breath...

Yes, as Perse said, GET A LAWYER, and do so BEFORE speaking to them. Let your lawyer do the talking for you and make sure you do not answer anything without consulting your lawyer.
You can get through this, and we are here for you. Good luck and sending good vibes your way! ?
