Hi everyone! So I have a huge favor and help to ask for those of you know who knows the answer.
A. for who do you see first, I know that ABC should be considered. but what if the answers are between a 1. sickle cell client complaining of 7/10 pain and 2. post op client (i think it was thoracotomy or something) complaining of difficulty swallowing?
I went with the sickle cell client because you always attend to them especially when they are in crisis, but post op difficulty swallowing for that particular surgery is expected right? so what do I choose? is it still difficulty swallowing d/t airway and because pain is psychosocial???
B. how about client with dvt waiting for administration of heparin and have hct of 31% vs. diabetes with 220 glucose??? i would go with dvt d/t circulation, right???
I just need answer to this, just in case I will come across the same question again...thanks everyone, i really appreciate it

Spr2013, if you are going by ABC which one will be having airway problems? Post op. It's normal to have some sore throat and gag reflex but post ops always come first. Especially general anesthesia. Question b which one would you attend dvt, need to start heparin before it becomes PE. Hope this helps.

should someone with a possible airway obstruction wait while you give a pain med?
which could cause the patient more harm...a glucose on a known diabetic of 220 (not bad) or a DVT that can have impaired circulation or have the clot migrate for a PE or CVA

I had an awesome critical care teacher who said to look at priority questions this way, which answer will kill your patient the quickest. That is how I now look at priority questions.
