Need guidance!

I'm going to be going into dual enrollment courses and am wondering what would be the wisest choices for classes to take for my pre reqs? Obviously most schools are different for pre reqs but in general I'm curious what would be the smartest choices. Thanks!

It really depends on the program. Usually the nursing program will list their prereqs. You pretty much always need anatomy and physiology, basic writing, chemistry, math, biology (upper level or human) and a couple nursing specific classes. At mine I need intro psych and lifespan development.

I am not sure if I am going to continue at this school though so I will also be taking nutrition as that's a common one required at other schools that I might transfer to. At mine you don't need microbio until later but it's a prereq for many. In general, you aren't required to take medical terminology but many recommend it. Spanish isn't a bad idea if you live in an area where being bilingual would be a huge asset.

At most programs too you need your CNA license and to be certified in CPR/first aid.

Are you looking at ADN or BSN? I've mostly just looked at BSN so most of the info applies to that.

Start off with something basic like English 101 or College Algebra. You can't go wrong with that cause more than likely you're gonna have to take it regardless of what school you go to.

Good day:

None of the nursing schools in our area -- from diploma to ADN to BSN require CNA. Health Provider CPR with AED, yes, but not CNA.

The nursing schools in our area only require prerequisites to be taken at an accredited school, that A&P 1 and 2 are from the same school, and any microbiology course includes a lab component. From that perspective, go with the most economical choice to save money.

Thank you.

Anything general. I took speech and intro to psych my senior year of high school.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm never gonna put all my cards down on one University, but I'm really interested in attending USF for their nursing program. It's one of the best in Florida and close-ish to home. What I'm curious about is it of coursr requires Micro with a lab but it also says Bio, Chem, Biochem, OR Physics (3 credits each). I feel like I'm overthinking it but I'd love to take Bio again. Really enjoyable class and I learned a lot. Would love to get back into it. But then everyone is always saying Chem is required and it really throws me off. Thanks for any more help! Also, I'm going for BSN.

The most important thing to look at is what the schools require. Every university here in CA requires both bio and chem, but those are also prereqs for A&P and micro (which are also required).

Chem will also help you when you get into pharmacology.
