Need to change shift..

So I'm a single mom working NOC .. am fine with this shift as i have an adult family member here when I'm at work for my kids. Now the family member is going to be moving out in the near future and I wont work noc leaving the kids home. So do I approach my current employer and let them know I'd like to make a change even though they have just hired a bunch of new ppl for days..then risk them replacing me without a day position for me or just look for a new job altogether ?? This is so stressful. I like my job they pay me well and I've only been here 5 mos. ugh ..I hate making a change so soon..what to do

I would approach your employer first. Most employers are willing to switch you if you have the seniority and the shift is available. At least that seems to be the way it works here where I live. It would be a shame to leave a position you enjoy when you don't necessarily have too. Good luck!

Thanks.for the good advice ..

very different to most places that I have worked - usually all new people get hired into the night shift and then day shift openings go to those with highest seniority allowing for choice. Meaning some people don't want to go to days (me being one!) Hopefully management will work with you, otherwise look for other position within same hosp to transfer to.
