Hi everyone, I haven't posted here in quite awhile. I need some advise from my fellow nurses. I became an ER nurse at a level one trauma center right after graduation and stayed there for 2 1/2 years and then went on to become a RN Case Manager for home health mainly for better hours. Well I was recently contacted by a nurse recruiter who found an old resume of mine on Monster, well he wanted me to apply for a position on the air force base and with me being prior service, he thought I would be perfect. Well I was told I was "highly qualified" for the position, but it got shot down by the contractor officer b/c I did not have a BSN. Need less to say that made me angry, so I enrolled in a RN-MSN program thru UOP that same day vowing never to be turned down for that again. Anyway, one day I want to be in management or admin, so my question is should I go back to the hospital since I only have 2 1/2 experience in a hospital or should I stay where I am. I don't want to hurt my chances by staying in HH or will it hurt me at all. When I am done with school in about 3 years, I will have a BSN and master degree in nursing, business admin, and health care admin. Help!!!
Thanks,
Rachel

I would think it would have more to do with what job offers you the most flexability for school. You have 2.5 years in the E.R, I think thats good enough for now.
The position I'm looking at is 7a-3p, one weekend a month. With home health I am home by 2 or 3, BUT (big but) I have so much computer work to do. The case management never ends, I have to take call every Monday night (some people call a 3am just because they can), and I take call every 4th weekend. Once I'm home it never stops.

I agree that your current job along with your work history is great.
Nothing should stop you from whatever you want to do once you
have those degrees.
The home health experience is a plus, because administrators
also need to understand that market/product/whatever you wish
to call it.

I think it depends on your ultimate goal. I too did my BSN and MSN via UofP and then decided I wanted an APN cert to go with it. Decide on your goal and then find out what the qualifications as to experience are. Good luck.
