Hi all,
I am a nurse with 2 years experience in general medicine and I just got an interview with two managers, one is from neurology and the other is from post-surgical. I have been trying to go from general medicine to something a step above like tele or a float nurse position, and have also applied to places like PACU, but no luck. My question is, how do I go about steering away from Neuro without coming off in a negative way? Because I’m sure they’ll discuss with me the types of patients they get and I personally think that Neuro will be too much for me. The recruiter did ask me what I was interested in and I told her tele/float RN, etc. & that’s why she said she’d have me interview with both managers, to not feel tied down to one specific (neuro) position I guess. Thoughts?
Sorry for long post & if it sounds confusing. I’ve just been struggling to find a full time job and I work PRN on the general med floor I got hired on two years ago. We get heavy patients often and I know I cannot emotionally handle it anymore.

If you have been "struggling" to find a full time position than I would just interview with both and see how it goes. You may be offered only 1 of those positions. You can accept and go from there. Both sound like heavy patients but would give you more experience toward your goal. You might like the position and choose to stay but you can always keep looking for those positions that you really want, but meanwhile you will have full time work. Just also know that most float positions require you to have experience in many different areas, they want to to be able to hit the ground running; and it is also in your best interest to be well trained and experienced as well.
Good luck!
