Need Advice!!!!

Hello allnurses!

I am having a very difficult time getting hired. Long story short I graduated from USF with my BSN in August, took my NCLEX right away and passed the first time while pregnant. I didn't want to start applying because I knew I would have to take time off for my baby, which was due mid-September. I had my son and decided to take 4 months off instead of the usual 6-8 weeks. It is now April and I still haven't found a job. I am applying for residencies in the Tampa and Orlando area and am rarely offered an interview. The message I keep getting is "After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that you have not been selected for this position." I just got that response from Morton Plant's residency today and have gotten it from St. Joseph's, Florida Hospital Tampa and Orlando, Brandon, All Children's, etc. I got an interview for TGH, a non-residency position, but it has been just over 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything from them. I don't know what I am doing wrong and can't figure out if it's my resume, cover letter, the time that I've taken off between school, etc. I have three years of tech experience at Florida Hospital on an ortho floor and really good grades from USF. If anyone has any advice or can help I would really appreciate it.

Did you try FL Hospital Zephyrhills? They don't have a GN program..it's direct entry. Same thing for the heartland division. I know it's tough out here but you have your BSN so don't give up!

Branch out into the smaller, regional hospitals (i.e Northside, SP General, Brandon Regional, Hellen Ellis, Ed White, Florida Memorial, Town N' Country...). Although these are all HCA hospitals, they are very willing to hire new nursing grads. If you don't like working for HCA, just put in your one-two years and look about a change once you have experience on your side.

When I graduated (back in the day lol), Bay Care wanted nothing to do with me either. Their loss :)

Heartland, Lake Placid and Wuachula are new grad friendly BUT you have to really pizazz with your resume and interview as the local college produces approx 36 new grads every June and they do their practicum there and it's usually treated like a 136 hr job interview, Lakeland Regional hires new grads and they are very pro-BSN good luck! I started my career in Lake Placid and still have many wonderful friends i still keep in touch with from my 5 yrs there. Highlands Regional is the other Hospital in the county but I don't have any experience working there.

So HCA is willing to hire new grad BSN? I was under the impression they were looking for more experienced nurses... Thanks!!

They usually hire in groups that coincide with graduation times of local colleges. You have to haunt their job pages to catch them.

You can always Google "Nurse recruiter HCA Tampa" and all the Linkedin profiles will appear. Touch base with a recruiter and they will contact you. That would be easier than scouring the want adds.
