Nurses Disabilities

Published

When I mix solu medrol the vial broke into pieces, cut my finger. Tendons and nerves are cut, I underwent the tendon and nerve repair, surgeon was not positive about the nerve recovery at all. I filed work comp, not sure what's going to happen, any nurses hear similiar incident before? Still don't understand why the vial can break? So unlucky...I am in California

Sounds pretty black and white in terms of Workman's Comp. This should be a slam dunk. Are you able to work, or will you be able to work at your job as an RN with the residual caused by the injury?

Wow. I'm sorry to hear that. I've seen many ampules break, but not vials.

Is your employer being decent about all of this? :)

I think the vial is defective, it shouldn't break so easily. I haven't heard anything from my employer yet, I hope they can give me some light duty work to do when i' m recovering from surgery, otherwise I would lose a lot of pay.I think I wil work full duty after I recover from this. Have to suffer so much without doing anything wrong, so unlucky...

You should get some sort of pay since this is related to a work injury... are you in the US ??

They should have some sort of salary compensation (at least a percentage) in the US...

This is something that you should take up with your worker's comp doctor and the people who are paid to advise you regarding work injuries. We cannot offer you either medical or legal advice, as these matters are beyond our scope of practice as nurses and students.

Good luck to you. I'm sorry for your injury.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm also suprised a solumedrol vial broke, it's the kind with the red rubber stopper with the powder and soln seperated?

Maybe call pharmacutical company to report this, also the FDA to report, look for similar cases. I hope you heal quickly and the pin wouldn't hold, and I'd need an ORIF but he'd try the pin first. Hard work in PT and terrific work by same Ortho, full function, no nerve damage. Don't despair, I think these guys give worst case scenario's for fear of lawsuits. Keep us up to date on the workman's comp and healing process.
