Need some advice-STAT!!

I have been a RN for a year. I have worked 7p-7a in an emergency room for that year. I have not been looking for another job, but was recently offered a home health position (a friend referred me) and have been offered Mon-Fri 8-5 and about 6000 more a year than I make now. The hours are great and the pay is better, but I love my ER job, not sure how home health would be, and not sure how the transition would work; I love the adrenaline rush I get from emergency care. I also know as a wife and a mother of a 5 year old, days would be better. Any advice on what to do?? I know it is my own decision, but educated, unbiased advise would be much appreciated

I would recommend taking the position in Home Health and consider working Per Diem in the ER.

If this new position is all you say it is then you surely cannot pass it up. Plus if you dont like it you can switch back to Full Time in the ER

It sounds to me like you have been offered a good position to better fit in with your family life. Working days will be better for your health and you can be at home in the evenings for your family. Try the new job and try to stay on at the old job in a prn status. If the new job does not work out, you can most likely go back to your previous job full time.

I agree with the previous posters about staying prn in the ER. You definitely don't want to quit until you decide if home health is for you. Here are some pros & cons that I hear HH nurses talk about: Flexible schedules-you can run errands in between seeing patients. You can see as many or as few patients in a day as you wish (this may not be true at your facility, however), re-imbursement on gas, establishing a raport with the patients. The Cons: TONS of paper work and nasty homes. You can't do much about the nasty homes, but if you keep ahead on the charting, you most likely won't have to take it home with you. Good luck!!
