I need to know what the best things to wear (barring the navy suit *L* because I dont own one) to apply for jobs and for interviews. It is essentially the same or more casual to apply? What should I wear?? I am applying to LTC/Rehab facility and then to a home health agency tomorrow morning.

Neat casual - no jeans - should be fine.

Towards the end of our program, we had a mock interview with the unemployment department. Their suggestion for interview attire is a suit (skirt), navy blue preferably with a white top and closed toe shoes. Wear simple jewelry, i.e. stud earrings, so you won't distract the person interviewing you.

If you don't have a suit, then wear a simple dress (solid color).

If you're just going in to apply but not expecting an interview, I think business casual would be fine. Neat slacks or skirt and blouse, flat shoes, stud earrings/minimal jewelry, minimal make-up, no perfume.

There's always the possibility of getting an unexpected interview. Even if you don't you want to make a positive impression.

If you can't bring yourself to buy a suit for interviews, then I'd get a nice pair of dark slacks or a dark skirt and basic plain blouse.

I always suggest looking in thrift shops and consignment stores for outfits as you might find something very nice for not much $$$. And yes, I do shop those myself, regularly!!

Good luck with your interviews.

I know everyone suggests wearing suits and plain jane sort of attire, but even my mom (who is also a nurse) doesn't wear that crap... why would I? LOL

I say wear what you're comfortable in. Something business casual, but don't feel like you have to go out and buy a new suit for dropping off resumes & filling in applications. Even for interviews... unless you suspect you'll wear the suit again, I wouldn't buy one.

I went to a job fair in a nice dress, heels, wore jewelry, makeup (the sort of stuff I usually wear outside of work) and was hired on the spot. I think interviewers are more concerned with what's on your resume and in your head rather than what you're wearing. Granted it's best to show up wearing something nice, but don't feel like you have to wash out your personality and wear something you're uncomfortable in... your discomfort will be evident.

Good luck!
