Need advice on EC and studying

Getting ready to get started on my first two tests for Excelsior: Health Safety and Transitions. I have ordered the SG 101 for all of the exams, they should be here in a week. I have seen many posts about Saunders also, any idea on which edition is the best one?

Also: I'm really torn on the books for EC exams. I have only looked up 2 of them so far and boy are they high. Found one of the 2 for transitions for 26.00 used on Chegg. I still have all of my books that I used in my LPN program 1.5 years ago and have the complete set of the Incredibly Easy series. I want to be really prepared. I'm scared of the SG 101 notes as my only resource but I don't want to waste money on all of the books listed on the content guide if there are other books that are more helpful.

I plan on testing on Transitions and Health Safety before the end of June, excited to get going. Any tips on how to study for these two exams? Did you use SG 101 for the exams and such? What about the TCN modules seen on Ebay?

Be careful with SG101, not all their material are useful. And you need to check some of their info against the text for accuracy. Good Luck. I am giong to send you a pm with other places to look for the text.

Nervous1...although I don't have suggestions as to resources for the exams you mentioned, I wanted to offer some encouragement and let you know that you have come to the right place! These guys & gals here are awesome and VERY helpful.

Good luck to you with your up coming exams.

I've learned over the years that if you buy the previous edition of books you come out sooooo much cheaper. I did this when I took Anatomy & Physiology. The newest edition was almost $200 so I took a chance and purchased the previous edition from Amazon for $15 and the books were almost the same. Just off a couple of page numbers and the cover was different.

I taped the EC content guide into a pocket recorder and listened to it in my travels. I also recorded highlights from TCN module, questions and answers, also helped. I used some of the SG101. I have only obtained C's so far but i'm just glad i passed.

I got books on Amazon and eBay for some of the classes, always 1 edition back, then I check the publisher website for updates - I didn't buy anything but studygroup101 for Transitions and I passed that with flying colors. I've used SG101 and Saunders for all my exams so far and I can't say enough about the price & material for SG101, compared to some other out there. If you go to eBay, be careful on some of the people selling Excelsior - the medstrrong person I found out sells notes from Yahoo Groups which you can get for free, the other excel person is just random powerpoints, which may or may not even pertain to the module. I also looked over some of the TCN modules and realized that they don't cover all the material at all, so that was $40 wasted. But for $10 the SG101 can't be beat, the practice quizzes are awesome and really helped me. I've been told to do my Info Lit and English at Penn foster - supposedly easier & cheaper! Oh and I subscribed to the merck online so I could look up stuff! Good luck, Kazz

Only 3 more & the FCC!! WooHoo!

Well I just took the form A of the practice exam and scored a 62 :(

Evverything about the professional associations and forms of nursing (functional, team, case management) I missed pretty much. I took this cold so I'm off to study - hoping to take this exam before the end of the month.
