Hello everybody, I really need your advice. I got two job offers this morning. the first job offer is for nightshift 12 hours on postpartum floor. The second offer is for postpartum/ women gyn/onc surgical (I know, strange combination) 8 hour shift from 1500-2300. I have only worked day shifts in the past and have never done 8 hour shifts. Any advice on which position I should take? The one that deals with only postpartum patients/babies 12 hour shift, or the mixed position 8 hour shift? Thank you!
I also would like your opinion about 2nd and 3rd shift? which one do you prefer and why?
Been there,done that, ASN, RN

I feel you will get a wider variety of experience on the afternoon assignment.
Afternoons also provides a regular sleep schedule... which is priceless.
Of course it depends on your personal situation.. many nurses work nights to work into their families schedule.
I think ,,, no one can be a good wife, mother,, etc. if they are sleep deprived.
Good luck with any decision you make.
Thank you for your reply, I accepted an 8hour shift position. That way I can get sleep, I simply don't think my body will like me if I worked night shifts
