Does anyone have a good story about a near term infant (34-37 weeker) that I can use as a case study? I need a good story that shows some of the common problems with a near term infant. Thank you.

What do you mean story? My son was a 34w and had health issues, but it's not published anywhere *L*
Just the specifics about the course in the hospital. Did he have any problems with respiratory distress, feeding difficulties, was he in the hospital longer than normal? AWHONN has started an initiative on near term infants and how these babies may look full term but we need to be aware that there could be potential complications.
Born at 34w+1, grunting at birth, put on bubble cpap, began to decline and was intubated in order to surf him. Extubated the next day back to bubble cpap, staying on that for 2 days, then NC for 1 day. Had poor suck/swallow/breathe coordination and remained in the hospital for 2 weeks additionally because he couldn't feed and was losing weight. He also had fairly severe hyperbilirubemia. He was 5lbs 2oz at birth, 4lbs 8oz at lowest and came home at 4lbs 14oz. (yeah, nearly three weeks and still hadn't regained his birth weight, stubborn little bugger!)
I also had a little girl who was a 35w+2 who had a much easier course. No breathing issues, jaundice that we treated at home, only 24h in the NICU for blood sugar regulation.
That is exactly what I need. Did you go into labor spontaneously or did your water break? I hope they are both doing well now.
I'd been in labor since 19w+5, receiving terb pump, indocin etc. day I delivered I had an amnio and lungs weren't mature but I had no fluid left (almost couldn't get enough for an amnio) so they put me on mag and hoped to hold me off for 24-48 more hours and give me more steroids (before we knew that multiple courses of steroids didn't give multiple benefits)
with DD again, I had been in labor since 19w and meds were stopped at 35. Her bag was bulging and she had floated up so I had to stay in bed because of the possibility of a prolapsed cord. they eventually gave me some pit because amazingly enough, not being allowed up and running saline through me was slowing down my labor....(duh, considering that's what they try and do to slow down PTL!) and they were worried about the risks of infection. since I was 5 and bulging, they figured I was going ot deliver anyway, might as well not make it go super slow
What a great mom you are to sacrifice so much for your kids. They are very lucky to have you. I am glad there was a good end result.

I don't have a story, but you may want to look at this thread in another forum.

Well, you do what you have to do. But ask me if I'm having more kids: HECK NO! They said once could have been a fluke, twice was a pattern, and I cannot do 6-7+ more months of bedrest. I just can't. DH got the big V *g*

My 18 year old was born at 36 weeks. She sufferred cardiopulmonary arrest in the full-term nursery. Etiology unknown. Maybe apnea of prematurity I was told at the time.Had 10 days of antibiotics and 9 months on an apnea monitor. Uhoh I see the link above to prmerns. I bet she knows some great cases.
