:uhoh21: Hello .. I just have 1 1/2 weeks to go before taking NCLEX. I have been studying and doing questions but i have been getting 58-64 % of them right. I am going to have a heart attack because I feel I am not prepared. Any suggestions? Sombody.... Anybody.... :)

hi rn29tobe, first, welcome to allnurses :)

about your question since you only got 11/2 week left, focus on your weakest area, pray, pray, pray and pray. also, ask for insights/tips from your friends who already passed the nclex. you also need to have a time to relax and enjoy!

btw, i'm also reviewing for the exam, i collected some review tips and infos from my classmates who already passed the nclex. if u like u can PM me. :)

I just took the nclex yesterday & the exam truly is like nothing you've seen before. I felt it mainly focuses on your critical thinking skills - not what you've studied. Of course it helps to be knowledgeable about the diseases & procedures, but it still comes back to your critical thinking ability. My exam shut off after 75 questions & I'm still awaiting the results.

My point is, I felt the same way you did - as if I wasn't fully prepared, but now after taking the exam, I don't think there is any way I could've become any more prepared. You either have the critical thinking skills & know how to apply them or you don't. Chances are if you were able to graduate from a nursing program, you have the skills. Manage the test anxiety & you should do fine.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I am focusing on staying calm.

Well, look at this way...you only have to get 50% of the questions correct on the NCLEX. The computer has to be 95% sure that you have the ability to answer 50% of the questions correctly, but it's not like you have to get 90% of them correct. I took a pretest in the Kaplan book that had 180 questions and I got 108 of them correct. That made me relax a little bit....I've been freaking out over taking boards and I don't even take them until June!!! I feel better too because now I know WHAT I need to work on (I had my suspicions) and I know what I need to focus on.

Try picking up the Kaplan book at a local bookstore. It teaches you HOW to answer the question even when you DON'T know the answer. I am only 30% into the book but already love it. It makes so much sense the way they put things.

Good luck and I'm sure you'll do fine!!

I picked up kaplan and it does help. I finished the book and the disk. There are aslo some questions for free on http://www.4tests.com from them. Someone gave me that cool tip. I also took the ncsbn questions. I think those help too.

Thanks and happy studying too you too!

Were all in this together! :)

I guess it depends where your taking it. I am in NYC so we can get our results in 48 hours for a small fee. I think its different in other places.

Hope this helps! :)

Hi Melanie, is very nice to read your post, actually we are almust in the same stage i am planing to take the Nclex sometime around the end of May or June, I can tell you that I just got Saunders 2005 just awesome, for me the best so far.

I can say that I got all the Nclex review books under the sun, just crazy, I wanna pass this, I wanna be over this step in my life.
