Sorry this is going to sound so all over the place but
I just took my NCLEX and literally half of it was SATA - I'm freaking out, absolutely freaking out
I did well in nursing school and graduated in May and I got a 99% predicted chance of passing on my first try on the ATI exit comp
But I didn't know anything on this test! Half of it was OB and I knew my med surg but I hardly got a chance to prove it
I was praying during the exam it wouldn't shut off at 75, I wanted a chance to prove that I knew my material but it did and my heart absolutely sank
There wasn't even much pharm
I'm so sad. It's been less than a half hour since I took it. I guess what I wish to ask is, is the rumor that if you get more SATA, the better you are doing? Is it just that - an unfounded rumor?
And what about the one about if you get your last question wrong, you failed? I believe my last question was wrong
I was in the elevator exiting the building where I took it and just said to myself "I don't think I failed - I know I failed." I'm so disheartened. I was fairly confident beforehand...
Also, I'm in NY, how long before I can re-take?
Sorry I seem scrambled. It's because I am. Any answers or insight at all would mean so much to me right now
Thank you
Tridoral

The type or amount of questions don't' indicate if you passed or failed. You can pass and only get 5 SATA

The amount of SATA has nothing to do with if you pass or failed, same with the last question. Go out & do something to relax & destress. I believe NY participates in quick results. Just wait 2 days, unless your license posts sooner. You made it this far & passed nursing school!

Self doubt is understandable when taking the test, but why is it that the graduates that do very well in nursing school, the Comprehensive Predictor, and Kaplan Q trainers still freak out when it stops at 75 questions? You should have been praying that it stops at 75.
NCLEX is a computer adaptive test. It may be difficult to comprehend that missing questions is not necessarily a bad thing. In nursing school, all of the questions on your test are questions you are expected to answer correctly, but NCLEX isn't designed that way. If you are doing well, the test is designed to give questions that you are not expected to answer correctly because they are well above the pass level. Problem is you do not know the difficulty level of each question. It is attempting to determine your level of comprehension and in order to do that it has to determine your limit by repeatedly giving you questions slightly above your comprehension level (and you will most likely get them wrong).
If you did very well in school and the test stops at 75 questions, there is a extremely high probability that you passed.
If you barely passed nursing school and it stops at 75 questions, it is most likely that you failed.

I was sure I failed when I took my NCLEX- like you, mine was heavy on SATA and shut off at 75. I felt like I didn't know the answer to like half the questions, and I cried in my car afterwards. I had a 3.9 GPA and couldn't figure out where I went wrong.
But I did, indeed, pass. And if you did well in nursing school and don't have any unaccommodated learning disabilities or severe test anxiety, I think you can be reasonably confident that you passed.
Update: I found out I passed! I looked my name up on the NYS BON site and my name popped up about an hour ago.
I'd been checking and I heard NYS posts it in about 48 hrs but wow, mine was 48 hrs on the dot!
Surreal. I was so confident I'd failed. I haven't gotten my official results in the mail yet of course but unless someone else with my exact name (which is a pretty rare name) tested recently, it must be me right?
Thanks for all the replies and to people taking the NCLEX - study your hardest and give it your all because it's hard, and probably 5% of what you will study might be on it, so give it a great effort! And even if you're 100000% confident you failed afterwards like I was and completely guessed through the exam - don't lose your cool until you've officially gotten your results! Otherwise it's not worth it (I held it together the day of the exam and had fun with friends but last night, I sobbed haha.)
Thanks again!
