NCLEX RN 3500

I came across this question and would like to know more about the rationale.

The question is:

The nurse is caring for a client with hemiparesis caused by a stroke. The client is barely repsonsive. Which intervention takes highest priority?

1. Performing passive ROM

2. Placing client on the affected side

3. Using hand rolls or pillow for support

4. Applying antiembolism stockings as ordered

the answer is 2--maintaining a patent airway

What I am inquiring is that if we have a patient with that problem, we put them on the affected side to increase lung expansion? is that correct?

yeah you are right, you should position the good side where it won't impede the circulation.:D
