Hello!!
I have a question, I am not sure if this was already discussed previously.. If so, please take the time again to answer my question.I would really appreciate it. Is it possible for me to practice in California even if I will take my NCLEX for the state of New Mexico? I applied for New MExico because of the faster processing time. How do I go about with this? I was told that this is possible and it won't take long. Some are saying otherwise. Which is which? Hope someone could enlighten me on this? Thank you very much.

you can take NCLEX with any state but the slight problem arises to whether you can recieve your license without SSN, even then it isn't too hard to transfer/endorse your license from NM to CA. Try doing a search using the search tabs on this forum with key words and you will probably find the answers

You will need to endorse your license to CA. NM will issue a license without a SSN#, but CA will not issue a permanent license without it. The temporary one that they issue is only valid for 6 months.
NCLEX is a national exam, and the results are good for all 50 states and US territories. The issue is that you need to go thru the endorsement process for any other state after you have your license.
You can actually get a temporary license issued in CA that day if you go to the BRN in Sacramento and have verification of your license in NM already sent to them.
Thanks for the info! So basically that means I can practice in California or any state for that matter after passing the NCLEX?Have one more question, how long is the validity of the ATT for New Mexico? I have heard that it is very difficult to schedule an exam in HongKong nowadays. My att could expire before I could get a scheduled date for my NCLEX. Thanks again! :)
I have been reading other forums here with regards to New Mexico. I came upon this statement and I would like to clarify what this means: "Like in California, they need a valid and active license from the state that originally issued you your license to be able to apply for licensure by endorsement." Does this mean that I have to work first in New Mexico before I can practice nursing in California? Sorry, I don't quite understand this.I would really appreciate if someone could enlighten me on this. My plan is to file for the state of New Mexico for my NCLEX and yet work in California? Is this possible without working in New Mexico anymore? Is it possible that my first US nursing job would be in California? Thanks in advance!
You do not need to work in the state you have your license. My understanding of valid active license is that you have not let it expired. You can endorse to many states and do not have to actively work in the state. Travel nurses can activate many states in preparation in case they get work in that state they are not delayed whilst waiting for a license. I have a license in NY which is just about to expire but endorsed to AZ which I will keep active.
Hope this makes a bit more sense for you
Thanks again! I'm relieved to know what you just posted...

HELP!!!! How to take NCLEX in another country
Already answered in your thread.
That is not what we stated, you still need to get a license for the specific state where you wish to work and go thru the process of obtaining the license. The NCLEX results are accepted in all 50 states as well as US territories, but this does not mean that your training will be accepted automatically in all fifty states.
The exam is offered in Makati, so not sure why you are mentioning taking it in HK; there really is no reason to even be considering that. There are always cancellations being made, both in Makati as well HK so slots always open up.
But more importantly, you need to be aware that you are looking at about five years for a chance at a green card if you do not already possess one to be able to work in the US.
Would advise reading some of the threads on this forum, especially the one called the Primer at the top of this page.
