Navy Nurse Candidate Program - Interview Tips

Hi, I've been lurking here for almost 10 months now and I have truly enjoyed your comments :D. I'm especially impressed by the camaraderie among the hopefuls and those who are in :yeah:. I look forward to joining you soon. I'm in the beginning stages of applying for the Navy NCP program and I have an upcoming interview soon. If you have any experience or tips for interviewing for this program, please let me know. What should I emphasize in the interview? I plan to make the military my career and will emphasize my desire to become Intensive Care Nurse and be assigned to the USNS Mercy or USNS Comfort. I was a former Navy brat so I have some understanding of the military.

I have BA already and have applied for an accelerated 12 BSN program.

Also, if you have experience with Air Force, Army, or USPHS interview please do post as I'm sure there are some similarities between them that I can use to be successful at my upcoming interview at the Navy Hospital!

I'm in the NNCP. At my interview down in Pensacola the nurse officers I spoke with mostly just asked about myself, why the navy, if my family/significant other supported my decision, etc. I gave them honest answers and they let me ask them questions about being a Navy nurse. It was pretty chill.

Thanks Izzycatswim. I'm glad its pretty relaxing. I'm preparing, preparing, and preparing. Did you have multiple interviews? Also, did they make you submit SAT scores and make you take the ASVAB?

1. No. Only the one in Pensacola

2. Not that I remember.

3. My highschool makes everyone when they are seniors take the ASVAB so I took it 4 years ago.

Thanks Izzycatswim! Did you bring any documents to the interview? I plan to bring 5 copies of my resume and references. Also, I plan to wear a dark suite. My recruiter said that there are others accompanying us on the trip so I hope its a group interview in a sense that all of us will be interviewed together. I don't mind interviewing in a group interview if that means I will be with multiple officers grilling me and only me all at once :)

There was another girl with my recruiter and I but she is in ophthalmology so our interview wasn't together. I did not have to bring any copies of anything. My recruiter told me not to because she had already made copies and given them to the ladies beforehand as she had taken some other student nurses for interviews about two weeks previous. I wore a skirt suit I used in highschool for Mock Trial...charcoal with thin orange strips, orange turtle neck sweater, stockings and pumps.

I recently just got accepted for the Nurse candidate program fiscal 2011...It was a long tedious journey...1 more year of nursing school then off to ODS..to be a Navy Nurse...finally!!! Let me know if I can be of help on application..

I had a peer interview for the Navy Reserves with Officer Navy Nurses. Although I was a nervous wreck, the interview wasn't bad. They asked questions about me, why the Navy, goals, and nursing.

Good luck!!

It's really not that bad at all, but i'm also prior military. I was like sitting down with a friend (we met in Starbucks) - they're there to find out about you, but every person in the world wants to tell about them, so let them :)

I was frank with my thoughts, semi-formal, and respectful but not iron-clad, we're nurses not robots :)

Congratulations!! I am an instructor at ODS and a Nurse. I will already have transferred from ODS when you get there; best of luck in your career!!

Was it hard to get accepted into NCP? what was the process like?

How long is ODS and I must commend and thank you for your service and obligation to serve our country! Is the NCP difficult to get into?
