Hi everyone,
I recently learned from my recruiter that I was selected for the Navy NCP program. However, my issue is that although I was selected my recruiter says I have yet to be final selected for this year. He said that the Navy is currently at 217% capacity for this year and that getting anymore in before October 08 might be hard.
I was wondering if anybody else is in the same boat as me or has gone through this process and has any insight on when I can get my hands on this money!?
Thanks

Hmmm, not sure where your recruiter is getting his facts, but I looked up some information and the two don't agree. According to the First quarter numbers listed on the Navy Nurse Corps website, our targeted end strength for FY '08 is 2790, the current projection is that we will only be able to fill 2772 of those spots. That leaves a deficit of 192 nurses. If the recruiter is saying the Nurse Corps is at 217%, then that would mean we have over 5544 nurses in the service now. In my 11 years, we have never had that many nurses, not sure where they are getting that from. I would request that the recruiter clarify the numbers with you, something isn't stirring the kool-aid. If they want to know where my numbers are coming from, tell them to visit the Navy Nurse Corps homepage, unfortunately you have to be active duty to see it, and look under the Force Structure section. Hopefully you can get a better answer.

Thanks for the comment LCDR Dan!
Its good to know that there are still open spots for nurses in the Navy. I can't wait to fill one of those spots in the near future.
I believe I was a bit unclear when I said that the Navy was at 217% capacity. I actually meant that the NCP program was at 217% capacity. I believe my recruiter said that the program traditionally accepts about 25 students every fiscal year and that they are running about 53-55 spots this year.
The whole NCP process is long and the anxiety has just built up. Finding out I got accepted was a stress reliever but then finding out that I might not receive any money until the next fiscal year was a bummer. Does the Navy really do that?

Can RN's with an Associates degree apply to the NCP program? Are you in a 4 year university or are you an RN-BSN student? Just curious

Congratulations! I am working on my NCP packet now - I'm actually hoping that I come up before the board right around October for just this reason - NCP spots are given out on a rolling basis, so your chances are better at the beginning of the fiscal year. It's exciting to hear that they are willing to go over their projected number of spots, though. Best of luck - if nothing else, you'll be front of the line come October.

I've been talking to my recruiter since Feb. They filled their yearly quota by about Marchish. Then, they elected to add more spots since they met thier quota so early. I'm not sure about the exact #s but that's what i know from my recruiter. I can't remember if she said they have few spots remaining or none at all. I'm going to wait to turn my app in Oct.....I just want to get the fresh sign-on bonus money! Plus, I don't plan on going til late spring if I get selected (& get my medical waiver).
Good Luck!
Wait what do you mean fresh sign on bonus money?
the decision for sign-on bonuses are made during the beginning of the fiscal yr. This yr the sign-on was $30,000 for a 4 yr committment. And @ the beginning of the fiscal yr they also were offering an addition amount, around $8,000. But, that was a first-come first-serve deal. So, if you sign-up in time you got $38,000. Otherwise, if that extra money was already taken you only got $30,000. However, there is always the risk of waiting til the beginning of the fiscal yr & the sign-on monies going down. I asked the recruiter about this b/c on the navy.com site it says there's a potential for $8,000 more. She said they don't really tell ppl about that b/c it's not guaranteed to be available when they sign.

Oh wow. I wish I got the extra $8000! I just got the $30,000 sign on which is all going to pay off my student loans. Wish I had some extra!

I have also just started the process in becoming an officer in the navy. I am in a RN to BSN program and will graduate December 2008....i am in the process of filling out an application....does anyone know what that means? What questions should i ask before submitting this app? I have left a couple voice mails but have not heard back from the recruiter this week. Should i ask about the 'ncp'? Isn't it only for current 'sailors'? Any advice or guidance is more than welcomed.
