My hat is off to you!

I just finished my OB rotation in school and I have to marvel at L/D nurses!

You guys are very psychic when it comes to when the baby is coming. In two cases, the nurses were much closer than the docs in predicting and betting when the child would come. I admire that!

I did a good job during that rotation and my instructor loved me! it's funny cuz i thought i would hate it. now I'm thinking of doing L/D when I graduate. any advice?

Again- you guys are awesome- keep up the good work!

I'm not an L&D nurse, but my advice to any student trying to get into a specialty area is to try and get an extern job in unit you are interested in. One of my friends started on the Gyno floor, then moved to post-partum, and was finally in L&D by the time we graduated. She now has her dream job! It's definitely worth a try to get as soon as you're eligible.

I second this! I'm a post partum nurse but I agree, getting an externship in the field is the best bet. Let them know you are interested from the start so they have time to get to know you. I did my extern in a NICU, worked in a NICU for a short while til a job became open in postpartum. Best of luck to you!
