My CNA course has been started

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I just had 2 classes this week. Really excited!!! I always wanted to help people, be useful. Couple years ago I was in a hospital with my friend when she was having her son. That day and night I was there with her, giving her massage, rubbing her legs, helping her in the bathroom. So, that day I understand that this is what I want to be-HELP PREGNANT WOMEN during delivery.

I am going to finished school in couple months, hope to pass my exam, and start working as a CNA.

Does anyone know, do cnas work in Labor and Delivery department?

And is it really to find job there?

Thanks:)

I'm not sure if they do (it probably depends on the hospital), but if not, you could become a doula!

Thanks, for reply, but for doula, probably I will need more school.

Right now, I work full-time, and have my classes 2 times a week, plus I have a 6 year old son. So it's hard for me even think about more school.

http://www.dona.org/develop/certification.php Check these guys out- this will tell you about doula certification and then you can decide if it might be right for you. :) I highly recommend it if you can swing it- doulas are *amazing* :)

I'm a doula, for 5 years now. I am presently recertifying with Childbirth International, there website: http://www.childbirthinternational.com/birth_doula/main.htm

I chose them over other very fine organizations because their course is all online and self-paced- plus, the tuition was similar. You may also want to consider Postpartum Doula, you choose the clients and set your own schedule (mostly). This is a plus because being on-call can be challening at times.

In one of our local hospitals, I've seen CNA's in the L & D ward, I would think it'll depend on the hospital. Good luck!

Hospital I worked in had CNA's in that deparment, but minimal. Essentially, minimal care was needed for new moms. They pretty much could do everything for themselves.

I always have a laugh about that department. The nurses I worked with in med-surg/oncology used to complain about the nurses in that department. They had little to no work to do. They didn't even think a 'real' nurse would work there. The real 'fun' was when they came over med-surg (on days we were short and they had enough staff to float a nurse to us.

They were useless.bad.png Ok, the RN's out there, don't flame me. Just recounting my experiences.

Thanks you for information.
