There's a new book out called "My stroke of insight" about a physician who was a neuroanatomist and in her 30's had a massive stroke. She describes her experiences, and also talks about how to treat patients who have had strokes in ways you don't read in nursing school. She also talks about how it took her 8 years to get everything back, but she did get all her functions back. Which flies in the face of the generally accepted theory that if you ain't got it back in 6 months you probably won't improve past that. She also talks about the insights she gained about how her brain works, how to filter out the negative, and learn how to be more positive. She writes how when her left brain was injured, she was left with only her right brain and she was in a state of bliss. All negative emotions were gone and she wasn't sure she wanted to go back to them. It's a very, very positive book to recommend to patient's families who have had strokes. A life changing book, and an easy read.
