MSP unit??

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello, new grad nurse here. I recently applied for a nursing job on MSP floor at Mayo and just received a callback today for an interview. I wanted to ask if any one could clarify that MSP is a Medical surgical floor? What does the P stand for? Thanks.

Specializes in ICU.

I've never heard med/surg referred to as MSP. It might be in your best interest to call HR and ask them what type of floor it is. You can always pretend that it's not you, and that you're just an applicant who saw the job listing and wanted to clarify before applying. And in the future it may be wise to clarify before applying also.

Thanks for the reply. I was considering calling HR. I realize that I should have clarified before applying to the position, but I guess I saw it and assumed that it was med/surg when I applied, until I got the call today and attempted to figure out just what position I had applied for... I guess that is why it is never a good idea to assume! :)

Specializes in Medical-Surgical/Float Pool/Stepdown.

All I can think of is pediatrics but until you talk to someone in charge you're just playing a guessing game . Does the job not have a basic description and job requirements? Let us know.

It is a casual-per diem position. So maybe med/surg pool. I am going to call tomorrow and find out and will keep you posted.

This is the posting:

Department: MSP

Position Summary: Casual - Per Diem RN

working a minimum of 4 shifts per schedule period

Responsibilities: The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.

So very basic posting, doesn't give much information.
