Hi!!
How difficult is it to practice nursing in a different state? If you pass the NCLEX can u practice anywhere? Can u move from state to state, or do you have to pass state boards. I don't know where i will be going to nursing school, but i want to eventually return to the west coast somewhere. What do I need to know about this?

I'm currently in nursing school in Sc and moving to GA as soon as I finish. From my understanding w/e state you take your boards in...to transfer to another state that all you have to do is get endorsed by w/e state you desire moving to. I'm not really knowledgeable about this but from what I've read that's what I see.

once passed NCLEX and have registered with a state BON I believe all you have to do is register with the BON of where you want to move and endorse your license.
That is what has been explained to me and I have endorsed from NY to AZ with no problems

You only have to take the NCLEX examination once, and a passing result is acceptable in all states.
I recently moved from California to Texas. I completed my California nursing program on October 14, received my ATT on November 21, took NCLEX on December 28, and received my passing results in the mail on January 9. I received my California license on January 20.
I then mailed my endorsement application, complete with money and fingerprint cards, to the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. I received a temporary Texas license on February 2 while they processed my application, and finally received my permanent Texas license on March 7.

Each state has its own rules for licensure by endorsement. Go to the BON website for the state in which you want to practice, and follow the instructions to the letter. Usually it involves a lot of paperwork and money changing hands. In no case should you have to retake the NCLEX.
