If you've narrowed it down to Texas and diversity is on your list of priorities, you would probably be more interested in Austin than Dallas (I live in Dallas, BTW). It's more of a young liberal city than DFW, which is going to be more homogeneous and conservative, relatively speaking. I assume from your age and current location, Austin might be a better fit. It's a university town, though (pretty much every major city in Texas is) and people are pouring into all the Texas metros, so competition could be stiff. I would actually consider Austin myself, but Dallas is closer to family and I spent pretty much all of my 20's living and moving all over the country, so I figure now it's time to be more available to relatives. Plus I'm tired of packing!

But yeah, cost of living is super reasonable, economy is strong. There's no state income tax, but be prepared to more than make up for that if you ever actually buy property.

Austin is fantastic. So fantastic that many people want to live there, so the job market may be pretty tough. I wouldn't make the move unless you have a job in hand.

Good luck.

Thank you for that advice, I have only visited the Dallas area, so I definitely should check out Austin and yeah I don't know yet if I would stay in Texas to buy property only time will tell but thank again for the heads up on that.
