I live in western NC. Moved here from WI about 3 1/2 yrs ago. There are a lot of differences between the two. Take your time and visit http://www.ncbon.org for info.
Wages are comparable to what I received in WI. You would also think that, considering the profession that we are in, we would have kick butt insurance but it doesn't exist. It's almost as if I don't have insurance at all.
The state is beautiful. Love the mtns!! Good luck w/ your move.
It's in Macon county.. I am really looking forward to moving I hear wonderfull things about the state! I will miss going barefoot in february though...lol!!

Thank's for the info! Well, luckily I don't take the Ins. I have it thru hubby, which is a good thing! Wages down here aren't the greatest, I was making more up in Michigan...thanks again I am excited!!!

There is a Britthaven Nursing home in Franklin and an Angel Medical Center. Franklin is relatively small. We had clinical rotations at both facilities. HOpe this helps!!

I live about 40 miles from Franklin. There are jobs in Franklin, Sylva, Murphy, and Atlanta-which isn't far away at all. You'll find work. It's a great place to live and raise a family. Please let me know if I can help you look around for work. Don't forget to check out Home Healthcare and the Public Health Dept.
YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE IT HERE!!

i am looking to move to the charlotte area. i am a nicu nurse with 7 yrs of level iii experience and have interviews scheduled with both cmc and presbyterian... i was just wondering if anyone had any comments or information about these hospitals. i think i prefer cmc right now, unless someone knows of any reason they aren't very good to work for.
second question... if anyone is willing to help me out here... what is the average pay rate for a nicu nurse with experience in the charlotte area? i currently live just outside washington dc and am making $26/hour... plus $4/hour night diff and $8/hr weekend diff.... i found a house in the highland creek neighborhood and am really psyched about moving ... i just need some basic income info to qualify...
oh yeah, one last thing... the charlotte mecklenberg school system... i have a rising 7th grader and a kindergartner... any comments about the schools??

hi. i am responding to your post, although i am not sure exactly if i can help you. i grew up in the charlotte area, i live in a small town called davidson. i am very familiar with the highland creek area--nice area by the way! i think you would love the area because it's sort of on the outskirts of the city. the whole city is very nice and a lot of things are changing. i think working at either presbyterian or cmc would be great. cmc is much larger, and presbyterian is private. those are the only differences i can think of at the moment, and they are located fairly close to each other. i have heard good things about both! also not sure if you know, but there is a new presbyterian hospital in huntersville, which is not too far from highland creek---you could avoid some morning traffic. so that may be something to look into? about cms schools...hmmm...well i worked at davidson elementary school, which is creme de la creme of schools. since i live in the suburbs the schools here are a lot better. i would thoroughly research the schools, some seem to be overcrowded, and a lot of parents don't like that. but the area in which you are hoping to move in, should give you very good schools. have you tried www.cms.k12.nc.us? i think some elementary schools in your area could be mallard creek elementary, or nathaniel alexander...i can provide more later if needed. i hope this is a start for you but feel free to contact me if you need anymore assistance. good luck with your move.
