Hi All
I'm planning on moving to MA in the next year and had a couple of questions.
Just as some back up information, I do realize the "nursing glut" in MA. However, I grew up there and moved to FL 6 years ago. I now have a daughter, and my husband and I are realizing how much we miss the family we have up there. Basically, moving back to MA is a non-issue - we will be moving back, I'm just a little hazy on the logistics. I plan to contact some nurse recruiters this December when we are home for Xmas to hopefully get some insite on what will make me the most marketable for their hospital. At the time I am looking to move I will have 1+ years experience in a NeuroICU at a well known & respected teaching hospital.
I want to get a job at one of the bigger hospitals in Boston, however I will be applying elsewhere (ie. on the Southshore) as well. My question is: how will I handle the application & interview process while living in Florida? I would like to have a job set up before moving up there - but is that even possible? Has anyone been through this before?
Sorry this turned out so long! And thanks for any help anyone can give me!

Truthfully I think you are going to have a hard time with distance recruiting and interviews. There are so many experienced unemployed nurses in MA right now and I have noticed most of the jobs are going to internal applicants anyway. Your best bet would be to start off with an agency...you may not be able to do the neuro ICU but you will probably get something. I truly wouldn't bother with the Partners hospitals right now...their money is all tied up in a multi-billion dollar surgical center on the North Shore, and they have been and will continue to be on a hiring freeze...this includes MGH and Brigham specifically. I would try BIDMC...there seems to be a need for semi-experienced nurses over there and they do have updated job postings regularly. Good luck!

I just got hired as an RN within the partners system at one of the hospitals in Boston so I don't necessarily think you should look elsewhere. Especially if you have experience. I think you are a step above us new grads because you have experience and that is what the hospitals are looking for. Have you thought of doing a travel nurse position up to MA?
KJ, were you an internal candidate?
No, I also did not do my practicum or clinicals there. So it's possible :) Did you work as a PCA? I think that may have helped.
Yes, I worked at three hospitals full-time while in nursing school. I've been looking since December and actively job seeking since April, and actually haven't seen any openings for the Partners hospitals except McLean. You really have to know someone to get in right now, especially as a new grad!

Just wondering how long it took you in order to get into one of those partners hospital. Did you have connections? Any tips? I have a little bit over a year of med/surg and hemodialysis experience. Thanks.
