Hi,
My hubby and I are thinking about moving to the Houston area, both or us are nurses, I was wondering which areas to look at buying homes, and which areas to avoid? Budget of $250,000 and under, we have no kids so the school district is not a concern for us..........look forward to hearing from you all,
Jayne :)

It depends on what you are looking for. Sugar Land (SW corner of Houston; not actually in Houston) is a nice area with many nice homes which many cost under 250K. There are a few hospitals in a reasonable area. And best of all the traffic isn't going to be near as bad as Houston. As for within the Houston city limits, I have no idea, but the traffic is horrible, so I'd avoid it if at all possible. We just bought a large house 3200+ sq ft house for 230K. Built in 2001, many bedrooms, much space, and far enough out of the major city that it's kinda like country living, but within a mile of restaurants, grocery, walgreens, etc. If you need, I can give you my realtor's info and answer anything else you might want to know.

Houston is huge. Do you have jobs here already? That will play into your decision. Avoid Interstate 10 (Katy Freeway) at all costs! It's TERRIBLE. A friend of ours moved here recently and he was actually looking at moving to Katy and he was extremelty happy he changed his mind after driving out that way a few times. The Kingwood (North East) area is very nice. You also have Spring... which is NW or just plain north. I prefer Spring because of the various veins into town... you can take Hardy Toll Rd., I 45 or hop on down to US 59. I'm partial to the north side of town, so my opinion is biased. :)

I from Spring and I think it is a great place! There are tons of neighborhoods going up there, and most house are somewhere around what you quoted. Also there is the Woodlands (which is very close to spring). The Woodlands is a very pretty area.

Hi:
Other areas to consider are the Clear Lake/Friendswood area which is far SE of downtown Houston. Clear Lake Regional Hospital is nice. Sugar Land would be a great area to consider also. You might want to look at the Cypress area which is out NW of Houston along Highway 290.
