Moving to Canada

My husband and I recently decided we would like to move to Canada. We've batted around a lot of ideas - Sweden, Germany, France - but, in the end, the most realistic decision is Canada. We have a lot of reasons for this, including a desire for a different lifestyle/culture, a desire to live someplace with a significant Turkish population (Toronto, believe it or not) ... My husband is Turkish, born in Germany w/ Turkish parents, moved back to Turkey and then immigrated here to the US on his own. I'm American, I've always lived in Upstate NY.

There are a lot of reasons, but I'm a little overwhelmed at the prospect of actually getting us there! Do I look for a job first or apply first? I don't plan on moving until my nursing training wheels come off ... aside from that, this could potentially be a long process.

Any advice? I know rural nurses are in demand in Canada, however my hubby just wouldn't tolerate that (even if I would LOVE it).

We also have a 2 year old.

Did you look on their website? There is a lot of info there about immigration. I looked into it a while back and one thing I remember is that having a job there (someone willing to hire you) before you apply is a big plus.

Here's the site... http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

Good deal, thanks.

Yeah, I was thinking I would see about applying for a job first. Or take the exam first? Or apply online and interview when I go for the exam? LOL So much to figure-out...

I looked at some info online about practicing in Toronto ... I have an ASN - I think they recently started to require new nurses to have a BSN. Is that right?

I don't know about the BSN requirement. I would definitely pass the nclex before you go. Is that the test you mean?
