I was hoping if someone would be willing to give me advice about moving to nYc right after graduation or staying in my home state for a yr...Here's my dillema... I graduate this May 2008 with a bachelors. We are in the process of filling out application forms for NCLEX which I guess do as a class together, because they even have the notary and finger printing people come to our school. I really want to move out to NYC, but I still have to finish my last semester, pass HESI and pass NCLEX before I head out there to look for jobs (I have been reading threads and found that NYC GNs are having some problem with landing jobs having not taken NCLEX and with internship positions scarce). I currently work as an extern, where I feel pretty comfortable. So, do you guys think I should just apply for a RN license where I currently live and work here for a year and then move to NYC and look for job, so at least I will not be considered a GN when I move out there and have a better chance of landing a job? My ultimate goal is to live in NYC and if not in a year- i will still most definitely move out there no matter what....and if anyone would be willing to share any experiences with registering/application process for NYC who were formerly from other states...Please let me know what the best route would be to go about this... any input would be greatly appreciated!
thanks so much! :redpinkhe

If I were you, I'd stay where I was, and gain a year's experience while living in an area I was familiar with. Once you get the year under your belt, you can go anywhere without having to deal with learning how to be an RN while living in a strange place at the same time.

I'm actually in the same predicament, although I've got awhile before I make the decision. A lot depends on if I can get an externship the summer before graduating in NYC and getting a early job offer. If that happens, I'll move to NY in Jan 2010, otherwise I'll just stay here and get some experience and then relocate.
