Monitoring programs

My journey started in delaware and i just had my license reinstated. Im currently being monitored by their program RBH monitoring. However, i now (for the last almost 3 years) live in kentucky. Once i finish my refresher course i plan to apply for licensure in Kentucky. Ive learned kentucky using KARE. Will i need to be monitored (and pay for) both programs or will RBH switch to KARE?

Moved to Nurses/Recovery for more response.

You would need to talk to the BON in that state. For me moving to another state was not an option as I had read stories where nurses had charges applied to them or was made to restart the program in a new state. When I sponsor someone I tell them that they need to grow roots for the next few years finish the program then move on with their life. Good luck hope it works out well for you.

i actually moved about a year before i ever started the program with the BON in my old state. I had not practiced in over 2 years at the time of the move and 3 at the time the program was set in place. not sure if that will make a difference. i suppose if i needed to i would/could move back but it definitely is not where i want to be.

I too moved to a different state. A little of my story, I surrendered my license in my home state, stayed there about a year. Well we eventually had to relocate so my husband could get another job, so we moved to another state. I worked on myself and my sobriety then petitioned last year for my license to be reinstated in my home state. I'm now enrolled in 2 programs, one with my home state and the other with the state I live in now. It's not been an easy road by any means but it's do able. I wish you the best of luck.

Youch. it has certainly not been an easy journey. it has by far been the cost of this that has caused me the most stress and looks like the cost for the previous year will total out around $2000 in drug testing. that doesnt include what i had to pay out of pocket for my evaluations and treatment. The idea of having to pay double that amount is well more then a little daunting and i hope that maybe when i do get to the point of applying for a license in the state that i currently reside that something can be figured out. Thank you for sharing yoru experience GA_RN2006. Ive done more then i thought possible so far- so i KNOW this IS possible. It helps to hear positive stories from others who have been there already!

Don't give up..it has been a very difficult road. The most difficult for me now is finding a job. I've been looking for months. Actually had a job but my home state wouldn't approve it. I don't have to pay drug screens for both states, just the state I live in now. (Which is cheaper). I would speak to someone in your home state if you decide to try to get licensed in the state your currently living. I do know you'll need a license in the state your living. I didn't know this until after I went in front of the board where I lived before. Guess I was just dumb and thought well I got my license reinstated so I can practice anywhere. I have invested so much time and countless $$ so I can't just give up on nursing. I just keep telling myself everything will work out in Gods time not mine.

Good luck.

well i just typed a big long response only to have it completley wiped out

I just found out that the only state approved refresher course is denying me addmittance because i am a liability that they refuse to place in a clinical setting! This is after months and almost a hundred emails to the program coordinator in which i fully disclosed my history. if i cant complete this course my only other option is a alternate practice plan which would require me moving back to delaware. id need to quit my job and uproot my children (leaving my husband behind) for however long it took for me to complete the 240 hours of supervised clinical.

Were both of the states in your instance compact states? Both delaware and kentucky are and i know i cant hold an active license in 2 compact states. i dont know if i should contact the endoresemtn coordinator here in kentucky and go from there? If theyll accept my lapsed license from delaware and let me do their approved refresher course i already know it will be a non isssue.

i expected the process to be hard, i even expected it to be explensive (although, not THIS expensive) but what i didnt expect is to have to move across the country to make getting my license back possible :banghead:

Oh no. I'm so sorry. Don't give up! My home state is a compact state and the state I'm currently living in isn't but to be honest I'm still confused as to what that even means. With the refresher course you have to do clinicals too?

Well i called my new states BON endorsement coordinator. i did not get into the specifics of my situation but simply told her i had a lapsed license from another compact state and did i need to reactivate my license before transferring. She asked me if i have practice 500 hours in the last 5 years (i was suspended a month after graduation so not even close!) i told her no and she told me to attended one of their approved refresher courses and apply after that was completed.

Delaware would only accept the one refresher course and yes i needed to complete clinical. Kentucky has a refresher course that does not do on site clinical but instead does a skills lab check- which i can obviously do without my background being an issue. Dont get me wrong, i would LOVE the clinical experience but i dont see that happening.

I am curious though since i was in a new grad position- with preceptorship at the time of my suspension if i would be able to apply for a new grad position once i get my license transferred. the further i get into this process, i feel like i have more questions then ansers!

Delaware wouldn't approve any from KY since that's where you now reside? I know from experience my home state has always made it, what seems to me, harder on me. Not saying that all states BON is any easier so don't get me wrong there. Could you possible speak with a lawyer? When I went in front of the board had had a lawyer represent me.

I would think you could still apply for a new grad position. Are you going to have restrictions when you get your license reinstated?

Correct. They would ONLY accept their refresher course which i didnt have a problem with since it was all online with the ability to set up the clinical anywhere- until their (the schools) representative told me they wouldnt accept me.

I had a lawyer for my initial hearing- biggest waste of 3 grand i could have ever spent. i got a 5 year suspension. it required an independent evaluation for substance abuse and mental health. It also required that i undergo domestic violence counceling. After 1 year if i had all negetive screens and followed the recommendations from my eval my suspension would be lifted with continued monitoring for the next 4 years. There was no mention of restrictions but i cant say for sure until i see the order that is entered in (hearing was on the 8th and has not yet been updated). My second hearing, this month, i represented myself and my suspension was lifted- although in all fairness ive had over 60 negetive drug screens in the last year, did individual counceling for 9 months and their stupid DV counceling. My original charges are from 2010 so im already over 4 years out from that.

As long as i can transfer my lapsed license, at this point im not sure its even worth my time worrying about what delaware wants as far as reactivating.
