I am a senior is high school and will be CNA certified in December.I want to go to school for nursing to become and RN but I have o college fund to pay for it. DO any of you know a good comm. college and grants to pay for it?

Sorry to not have replied sooner. I haven't been on here in way too long and have missed it! Anyway, I personally attend Phoenix College and have liked the experience so far (I'm still wading through the pre-reqs). I would think that any of the community colleges would be able to give you a good education. Find the one closest to you and head into the advisement office. The financial aid office can help you with grant/loan information.

Just put one foot in front of the other and go....Good Luck!

thank you, i have pretty much decided to go to scottsdale comm. but it is hard to get to the college because i live in payson which is like 80 miles north. i do however have the cna and terminology out of the way. i did that up here.

It sounds like you are quite the determined one! Payson must be a great place to live, but would tend to make things difficult in a case like this. I'm sure that all of your efforts will be rewarded in the end as you'll have a rewarding career and a few bucks to boot! Good Luck!

Have a great holiday season!

Renee :D

You could always go to Pima, and they have a good scholarship program called FAFSA http://www.fafsa.org . Just thought that i would let you know!! :)

Love Always,

Alykat1,

I commend you on your decision to go into nursing. I have great respect for young people getting out of HS and going directly to college. It took me about twelve years after HS to get my nerve up enough to go back to college. If you're determined and grants and loans are an option, then don't worry the money will be there just be careful. It's easy to not spend the money on college. I'm a little concerned about the 80 minute trip each day. 80 miles is a great distance and it's hard on the vehicle. It's also hard to catch a ride or the bus for an 80 mile trip if the car happens to breakdown. Are you planning on getting a dorm? If not, you're looking at 3 hours a day on the road that could be better spent studying. Is it the closest college? If your hell bent on this college for nursing, maybe you could take your prerequisites at a closer campus and then transfer when you get into the nursing program. Prerequisites are prerequisites it doesn't matter where you take them. Don't kid yourself the nursing program is difficult and time consuming with reading, homework and care plans... When the time comes you're really going to want that three hours a day for your homework! Good Luck to you friend.

I recently just graduated from ASU's nursing college. I went to college straight after high school and it was a rough road. I lost my scholarship the first year I was at ASU and I ended up working full time during school in order to pay for the classes etc. While I was in the program, I did get student loans to help me during the semester since it didn't seem like you had a lot of time for work during school. But all in all I borrowed $10K in student loans and my payment a month isn't as bad as I thought. Some of my friends from school came out with about $20K+ in loans due to the fact that they live on their own. My parents lived about 15min from campus so I just decided to stay home while I was going to school.

Good luck with nursing school! :)

Oh yeah, one more thing... It would've helped me to more of my pre-reqs at a community college because it would be cheaper (only took 1 class at MCC), but oh well, ya live and learn :)

Oh I also forgot... fill out your FAFSA form ASAP. You can also fill out the form online which is much easier. And I swear this is the last thing... I talked to the financial aide advisors at ASU also (helped to get their input and assistance with all the paperwork).

Hi alykat1:

I don't know if you have ever considered moving to the Tucson area, but, if so, you might want to check out the TMC website and look around through the educational opportunities area. TMC offers paid education and books to employees (ie: if you were working there as a CNA) who want to move forward and attain their RN degree. Their requirement is that, following completion of the programme, you be committed to the facility for a specified period of time - or, I suppose repayment would be required. I don't know if this is helpful to you or not, but it might be food for thought, anyway. Take care and good luck with your plans.
