MLT VS RN

I have been going to school for 5 years now. I got into a RN program only to end up with alot of loan debt and no degree. Currently if my decision is to continue with RN path is to get my LPN and bridge over . But lately I have been checking out other programs like the MLT BS. I have seen a few threads of people in the same boat as me trying to decide the right path.

I was just wondering what everyone thought about my situation and any advice they can give me....

Thanks

What is MLT? What would you be doing with it? What's the job market like?

Also wondering what a MLT is? Unless it is a nursing abbreviation you need to spell it ou for us. Lol

Those are 2 completely different jobs. Depends if you want to do patient care or not. Lab techs analyze stuff and report results. Nurses provide care and education to patients. Nursing is a much more physically demanding job. A lab tech doesn't have to interact with the public. You need to decide what your interests are.

MLT is medical lab technician.

What is that in relation to CLS or phleb? Those are the only two positions with which I'm familiar, after being a phleb.

I researched this subject a bit for myself - MLT vs. RN. I liked the though of becoming an MLT because I enjoy the hard sciences and I wanted a degree that would give me highly marketable skill set and continue on with my education after my bachelors. MLTs have a lot of education in the hard sciences with little pay. They actually make less than nurses and have little opportunity for advancement! Your nursing classes would transfer, but you would probably need an additional 2 years of school to become an MLT unless you already have a Bachelors in Science. Since you probably already have some nursing courses out of the way, I would consider reevaluating what went wrong with nursing school and working on fixing that!
