Micro at TCC

I took Matthai at the Northeast campus, and he was great. If you prefer not to drive, though, I have heard really great things about Dr. Carrington at the Southeast campus. I would be sure to register early, though, because her class fills up fast.

I took Lindsey at south campus....great teacher and great class! not too difficult as long as you keep up and study. ample extra credit opportunities too.

I know you're at South, but Matthai at the NE campus is wonderful! I'd recommend him to anybody.

I checked this post just to see if the instructor I had in 1994 was still there..and sure enough he is. I would STRONGLY recommend the extra drive to the NE campus to take it with Matthai. He makes the class as interesting as it can be and really helps you learn the material. If it was not a Science course you were asking about, I would say the drive is not worth it. However, since Science grades are so important...it would be worth the drive for an instructor that you know is going to give you a good shot at the best grade you could get!

I concur. The man is wonderful! It's a rare teacher who not olny loves his subject matter so much...but loves teaching it to students equally. And his slide collection (yes, the man still uses slides! LOL!) is the bomb!

Personally, I plan to audit his class, even though I've taken it for a grade, got an A, and long since graduated. I want to be able to just absorb and enjoy the info, without stressing over my grade this time.

I also had Dr. Lindsey at South Campus and heartily recommend her. She has a genuine love for the subject and for teaching. She not only makes the class enjoyable, she will help you learn if you have any interest at all. She also has the massive slide collection (I believe they all do). Further - I don't see how it's possible not to make an A in the class due to the many opportunities for extra credit.

Depending on the number of applicants, which is usually alot, this much is a fact. All pre-reqs need to be finished before you apply. If you are still in the class when you apply, the class is not counted. For example, if you are in Micro in the fall, and apply in the fall for Spring, the Micro class does not count, and you will not get in. It is a must to have an A in General/Organic Chem, and A&P I, and II, and you can get in with a B in Micro. The first three are a must due to the competition, so if you don't have A's in those three and at least a B in Micro, take them over before you apply. Students who have all the other reqs. completed will have a better chance of getting in than those who don't. I have known people who had everything except P.E. with all A's and did not get in because of that 1 credit P.E. class. Also, starting this Fall, with applications for Spring Entry, all applicants must have College Algebra completed in order to apply. The grade must be at least a C. The C 2.0 gpa will not count against your gpa for admissions, but it must be checked off as completed. This is a new policy at TCC. I have known folks who got in with a TEAS score of 72, with higher grades in the sciences and math portions, as they weigh heavier for selection. Brush up on your high school and middle school science, "General, Life, Planets, Plants, etc" as those are on the test. The TEAS exam study guide sold in the book store is useless, save your money. A&P - avoid all NE Campus profs. Adams, Fugere, and Pulse at SE are the best and give the best grades. Either Mathaii or Lawson at NE are good for Micro. Duane Schluter at NE or Dollar at one of the campus', don't remember which one are great for Chemistry. Avoid Jacaruso for A&P at all costs. She starts with 42 students and by the end, has about 7 left with C's.

Hi, I took Ms. Bagby on the SE campus and she is phenomenal. She makes the class fun, and her notes are projected on the screen from the overhead projector. Basically if you can go to class every lecture, pay attention and understand micro, and take her notes, you really don't need the book. 95-98% of her tests come from her lecture and notes. I completely agree with Matthai, he is awesome! Watch out for his slides on STDs if you have a weak stomach though! LOL I took it over the summer and it was very "doable". Good luck to you!

I am taking Micro as well in the fall and I have registered at NE campus with Matthai. I have heard wonderful things about him. Come join me and hopefully between the two of us we can "A"ce this class...
