Micro and AP2 together?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

This fall will be my final semester of pre-reqs. All I need is Micro and A&P II left so after a lot of thinking, I decided to take them together. Am I setting myself up for failure? I just felt like, with those being the only classes I will have, plus not working, I should have a good chance at succeeding just fine. I have one child, but he is pretty good at keep himself occupied if I am busy with school work. I just did not want to drag out the only 2 classes I have left into 2 semesters and have to wait until NEXT fall to try to apply for the program. I'd rather be done and apply as soon as I can.

Also, speaking of applying, have any of you ever applied while taking your last semester of pre-reqs? Can I apply during fall while I'm still enrolled in the last 2 courses or do I need to wait until they are completed and apply in spring?

I find A&P very time consuming and difficult. Microbiology on the other hand was easy to me. I didn't really need to study Micro, but A&P took up all my time. I did A&P 1 in the spring semester 15 weeks and I did Micro summer session in 5 weeks and I was glad because I couldn't imagine dragging it out into 15 weeks. I then had a baby then the following summer I did A&P 2. I literally did nothing but study for 4 weeks. Very intense!!!! But I got an A- in A&P2 :)

Our college would let you apply before you were done but because it is point based, you wouldn't get in because everyone else who applied had every pre-req done. I finished all my pre-reqs summer 2012, couldn't apply until November 2012 for the fall 2013 RN semester. SO I waited a whole year between my last pre-req and when I'll start the nursing program.

I took them together and made a high B in both. I was aiming for an A but both were pretty strict grading. So you can for sure do it. I didn't have any free time but I was so happy I got them both done :) you can do it!

Thanks for the reassurance! My mom is totally against me taking them together but I have been doing pre-reqs for coming up on 6 years!! lol. Life just gets in the way far too much. I am just ready to be done with them and getting ready for the actual nursing program. I tried taking A&P 2 this summer along with English 2, Child Psych, and a Health Orientation class I needed for Virginia since we just moved here. I wasn't familiar with having a shorter semester during summer because in Florida where I last was, the semesters were all just about the same length. So that along with the 3 other courses plus home and mommy life, I just was not gonna make it through AP. I ended up dropping. But I'm hoping for a much better experience this fall with the professor I switched to.

MommaTy, the point system affecting me getting in makes total sense I didn't consider that. I guess I will just have to wait until spring to apply.

Holy crap! I'm sorry you had to wait that long!!!

I'm doing both of these at the same time too! I need them and was told not to wait with micro because if I did I'd be taking it with the rest of the nursing courses and this will save me heartache if I get into the nursing program. I'm also going to attempt Advanced Physio as an accelerated class during the summer. (next summer) Our school is points based, so if I have to fall behind in one Micro will take the hit, but I LOVE science so I'm hoping that this works to my advantage. Wish us luck!!

I am planning on taking Micro and Physiology together during the Fall semester. My school has Anatomy and Physiology as two separate classes. I am currently taking Chemistry and Anatomy during my summer semester right now. It will be hard, but I think you can handle it. I am taking them together because I just want to be done with pre-reqs already!! Good luck!!

I'm taking A&P I as my only science this fall- but spring 2014 I'm taking A&P II and Micro together. Then Pathophysiology that summer so I can be done already. Ugh.

Next semester is my last semester of pre reqs and I'm taking a&p2, nutrition, human growth $development (online) and microbiology on campus. I don't expect any free time but I want them done! Hahaha

I took micro and A&P1 together. My advisor had actually suggested to do it that way. It was not easy whatsoever but it can be done! My nursing friends all did it the same way and not one of us failed either class. There would be days where both classes would have a test so I would have to study a certain amount for micro and spend the rest of my time on A&P, considering that was the class I was most worried about at the time. So just prioritizing will help you a lot. It will not be easy I can promise you that but as long as you go in knowing that you are going to have to put in some hard work you will do just fine.

I think it's def possible to do well in both, especially since that's all you're taking. Go for it! I'm taking A&P II in the fall with chemistry and 4 other classes. Last semester I took micro with bio and nutrition and 2 other classes and I got all As. I'm sure A&P II is difficult and time consuming like the first one. Micro took up a lot of my time! However, I studied a little every night and like I said, aced it. I also have 2 kids and work! Good luck!!
