NOOOO! I'm so sorry... I heard they aren't bad from EC though. FYI Keep in mind if you will be transferring to another college/degree program for BSN or MSN...that EC does not have a lab component for these courses. A lot of colleges require a lab component for their programs. I took my Micro and A&P at a local community college and transferred it in---not because of this, its just that I had a degree already. But, this is what I have been hearing from the forums. If you plan to continue your BSN through EC then you're fine I believe.

I already had A & P, but I just took the Excelsior exam for Micro. I probably overstudied... took about 2 months total. I used the Content Guide, Practice exams, Micro Demystified, Tortora's text, College Network Binder (ebay, $20), and Flashcard Exchange. I got an A.
Straighterline has A & P, I know some people who have taken it through that source. I believe they have a 3 or 4 credit A & P, without or with a Lab component.
When did you enroll? The new rule about A & P and Micro must be no more than 5 years old is effective for students that enrolled after October 1, 2012!

We can no longer use Straighterline for A&P, micro, growth & development/developmental psych for any of the core courses since at least 10/1/2012. There is also a notice on Straighterline regarding the same.
You can take the class at a local school if you choose also. Excelsior a classes/exams do not include a lab component (nor is one required by EC) however some state BoNs require A &P and micro to include a lab as do some RN to BSN programs if that is your goal. Just something to think about.

Beachy, I know someone who may be signing up for Straighterline A&P. She has been enrolled for a few years... do you know if it would still be accepted?
Your friend would have to check with an advisor as the course needs to be approved by an EC advisor before enrolling.
I know when I looked into Straghterline in November it was made clear (by a Straighterline rep) that the A&P classes (with or without lab) would not be acceptable for the school of nursing core requirements at EC. I also confirmed the same with an EC nursing advisor. I enrolled before Oct 1, 2012.
I can say that those who had info lit with Penn Foster approved last year but took the class after Jan 1st were subsequently denied credit for the class ( all approvals for non-EC courses are conditional & not guaranteed) since Penn Foster info lit is no longer acceptable.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply! I did encourage her to check with an adviser before she signed up...
I took my Info Lit through Penn Foster summer 2012, and when I enrolled 9/27/12, and got my official evaluation, it was on there as accepted... whew.... guess I am safe!! :)
One of the people that posted here (beginning of this thread) said she was just notified that her A&P was too old and would have to be retaken. I believe she enrolled before 10/1/12. Have you ever heard of anything like that??

I had to take microbiology and A&P through Excelsior (my last microbiology class was over 2 decades ago ). Have two brick n' mortar nursing schools in my city that require micro and A&P to have been taken within the last seven years as well, so I guess there's a trend in the nursing programs with this.
Anyway, the exams weren't bad at all. I studied the recommended textbooks; I actually used an edition older than the ones recommended and earned "A"s for both courses. I would say the difficulty level for both micro and A&P were middle-of-the-road compared to the nursing exams themselves... they were not the easiest ones, but certainly not the most difficult. Definitely go with the practice exams as well.
Good luck!
Ok. Thanks.
