Micro and A&P???

It is do-able however it will be alot of work. As long as you work hard at it you will do alright.

Thanks. I was just wondering b/c people at my CC have been telling me that it is not do-able and that even if I can do it I will end up with a bad grade in both classes. I study hard and have made school my full time job. I guess I just need a little encouragement. Thanks again.

Anything is possible but I'm taking Micro right now and it's tougher than either A&P 1 or 2. Micro is dealing with terms you have never heard of before and it is very detailed. A&P 1 you are familiar with the body so it is easier though still tough. Good luck.

Taking A&P and microbio is just so much, there is so much detail that needs to be covered.

If you are great at memorization, can read quickly and can comprehend thick text (without daydreaming while "thinking" your reading) then you should take both just to get rid of them

They are both hard classes, but I think if you have no work or kids there's no reason why you can't. If I can get A's in both while working 30 hrs/wk, you whould be OK without a job taking both together. It doesn't mean it'll be easy, just be prepared for a LOT of study time. You didn't mention - are you taking any other classes? Be careful you don't have too many, you don't want to wid up spending 90% of your study time on these two and wind up with a C in an easy class like sociology because you ran out of time. I thought micro was harder. Our labs took longer than class time allowed about 80% of the time, so we had to come in on our own almost every week. Plus a huge project where we had to ID a mystery slide. It won't be impossible, juist not easy.

Thanks for the advice. I will not be taking any other classes those will be my only ones. I am good at memorization and can usually pick things up pretty fast. I got a 4.0 in inorganic chem and will finish o-chem with a 4.0 as well. Is that a good inidcation of my success next quarter? Or are micro and A&P totally different monsters? The responses to this thread are making me nervous. I only have two more semesters left until Fall 2007 in which I need to complete, Micro, Chem 2, A&P 1 and 2. I'm taking Chem 2, Micro and A&P1 next semester so I only have to take A&P 2 during the summer. I would hate to split them up into A&P 2 and Micro during the summer. I don't plan on working during Spring semester. It seems do-able since it's only 12 hours. Chem 1 wasn't that bad. :uhoh21:

Oh you can definitely do it! I took ANP 2 and micro and worked 25 hours a week and got an A in ANP and B in micro. I probably would have done better in micro if I didnt work, but I needed the health and dental benefits. I must admit though micro was pretty hard and time consuming, but if you dont work then you should be fine. I'm from WA too and took my classes at NSCC in Seattle. Most of the people in my classes were not doing that great, but I think most of it comes down to motivation. Good luck

I'm so glad to hear that it is doable - if not a little crazy - to take both AP1 & Micro together. That's what I will be doing next quarter as well - I don't have a job, but I do have three kids (6,4 &2). It's always a struggle for me to find study time, but I've gotten pretty good at making the most of the time I do get for studying. I also tape lectures, and my current lab partner in Cell Bio (we are both getting 4.0's) is taking both these classes with me, so at least I know that she's got my back (and vice versa!). We study well together, and know each other's strengths and weaknesses - I'm hoping it will all work out okay. I am planning on applying to Seattle U. this Janauary, and I just wanted them to see that I was well underway with all my science pre-req's. I'm also applying to Tacoma CC in June. I asked my Cell Bio instructor - if I had to take Micro with either A/P 1 or 2, which would be easiest? He said A/P 1 hands down, because most of it is straight memorization. I'm doing it right now. It is doable, but it's kicking my butt big time and they are the only classes I have. I'm not working, I have no kids and not married - no issues to contend with and both classes are taking up almost every minute of my time (like what am I doing here anway - I got 4 essays to do and about 5 chapters to read within the next 6 days...). Very stressful. I've only got 3 more weeks left so I'm hanging with it. At the moment I've got a B in both classes - hopefully it won't change! I will be so happy when it's over.

You can do it as long as you don't have anything else to do and you plan on doing nothing but A & P and micro for the whole semester. Kiss your TV goodbye for those 4 months and don't plan on doing much else but those two classes if you want to get a decent grade.

I don't think I want to take two major science classes together again! They warned me but I didn't listen...but you can do it. Just be prepared for a LOT OF WORK.

Thanks everyone. I am really motivated. The only reason I am going to take the two classes together is b/c I will NOT get into my nursing program w/o micro and I have to have A&P 1 to even apply. They both have to be completed during winter quarter to meet the app deadline. A&P 2 has to be completed spring quarter. So I guess that helps with motivation, I feel like I am almost able to bite the carrot at the end of the stick (the one I have been chasing for the past year +).
