It sucks b/c of the patients. Typical snowbirds plus typical understaffing. If you can survive Delray though, you can make it almost anywhere. Good luck on Neuro/Tele. It's a hell of a floor for a new grad but if you survive you'll be amazing.

Thanks all. I think it's more preemptive nerves than anything. I haven't even started yet! My preceptorship I had 6 pts on a busy tele floor, so I'm just worried. This is a huge opportunity for me. I guess 6 weeks is standard.

I was offered a position at a large teaching hospital on a med-surg floor. It's a place where there is a ton of opportunity for advancement and lateral transfers. I'm starting to freak out about only having a 6 week orientation, though. They don't have a traditional new grad program and this facility tends not to even hire new grads so i consider mself very very lucky. Is this amout of orientation average? Ugh, td;dr: New grad with new job freaking about short 6 week orientation. I'm not sure i'm ready!

The EKG class was via my college. The NIHSS was online via the AHA website.

I posted because I honestly have no idea how to write an effective cover letter and the community here at allnurses is full of experienced, intelligent, mindful people of who I would be honored to take their advice. Woah. Um, thanks everyone. I wasn't expecting this big or impassioned of a response. This isn't the only new grad program I'm applying for. It's all but nigh on impossible to get an RN position without a formal new grad program in my state. I was always planning on rewriting it in my own style and utilizing tips I gained here. I appreciate it. The last job I applied for was a PCT positon (and before that, retail) so a cover letter was not even necessary. I'm starting from scratch. Again, I appreciate all of the constructive criticism. I'm glad that this post is proving helpful to others. When I re-write it I'll be sure to post it again.

i was wondering about including their mission/vision. i'll definitely add/recreate this to use them effectively. the reason i included the bls/other certs in the letter is because i was instructed by hr to include it there instead of on the application. otherwise, i would have just left it on my resume. thank you so much for your advice. i guess i'd better break out the red pen.

MyLady, Getting a name out of HR is like pulling teeth from a lion. I'd love to address it personally, but sometimes, it's not possible. If I manage to get one though, whom am I addressing by name? HR or the UD/NM? Thank you though! I appreciate the critique.

Here's my cover letter that I will be sending to a new grad program. Should I add in anything regarding experiences or use their vision statement or mission at all? It's a 200ish bed christian based not for profit facility so I don't know if there's anything i should add in. Also? Is it okay for other programs, just altering it a bit to tailor it. Thanks all!
