  1. Hi!! Quick question.. Has anyone ever had a problem starting school/clinicals with a lifting limitation?? I recently hurt my back at work (herniated disk) and start school in September. The Ccri paperwork has the medical exam on the back, and the physician has to sign that you are able to participate with no limitations.. Just curious.. I'm sure ill be better with physical therapy by the time school starts.. But it's the "WHAT IF".. That scares me.
  2. they are getting rid of LPN's everywhere... dont' feel bad. I work on a med surg floor now and love it!! you will do great!! take the med surg position. I wouldn't want to float, and ... infectious disease... I'm too paranoid for that!!! lol good luck!!!:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat
  3. HI! I work as a CNA in a RI, hospital and i love it!!! I work on a med/surg floor with telemetry, and it gets busy sometimes, but the people i work with make it great! I work 3-11. and i started out making 12 and change, then after about 3 months i got a raise to 14 and change. but you have to factor in the shift differential which is like 1.75 and weekends you make an additional 3.50 an hour on top of that. if you work overnights its an even higher pay differential. The telemetry is just the monitor that the patient wears to monitor their heart. and so we can keep track of their beats per minute, PVC's, and make sure they don't go into cardiac arrest on the unit. NOT all patients will be wearing them, only the cardiac patients. It's not a big deal...A Med/Surg floor is an great place to start, because you will see such a variety of patients, with all kind of illnesses. This will be great experience for you down the road..If i were you I would do it!!! Besides, everyone wants to work on the maternity/ L&D.... but you have to be bilingual.. and you really do have to know someone to get in there!! let me know if you have any other questions!! :heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat
  4. I have worked at RI hospital as a cna for 1 year, I am thinking about going for my nursing degree. My problem is that i have young children at home, my youngest starts kindergarten (half day) this sept. I believe ri hospital has a re-embersment program for education, but I haven't yet looked into it. I am interested in taking some of my pre-req's now, maybe one or two at a time.... I am 30 and I know that this will probably take a few years to do, but If you have any suggestions for me, please let me know. (ccri, st. joes, ric.????)
  5. Just wondering how you liked the training/orientation for cna II for lifesan? How was the phlebotomy training? i'm a new cna, just got my license... so i'm a little nervous, but soooo excited!!! ..any advice for me... thanks?
  6. Hi, Welcome! i started school at the end of april...we are all done with our book work and quizes and just started our clinicals last week...Congrats!
  7. Thank you soooo much for your support....I just feel like I went from the classroom & text book, now right to the patients, I think if i had someone "training" me or with me the first few times, i would feel better, but i was alone, so i really felt like I didn't know what i was doing wrong:( But I think that I will eventually get the hang of it. THanks guys:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat
  8. Well, today didn't go so well , i just feel like the patients can tell that i don't know what i am doing. I was assigned 2 residents tonight, while getting them washed and dressed for bed, one asked me to get the other CNA and the other said that i was too slow, and that he wanted the other CNA to come back in. Both residents are extremely sweet, and i felt like i let them down, like I was doing something wrong. Maybe i was going too slow, I don't know? I just feel horrible. I am just so dissapointed in myself. I did so well in class with the quizes and midterms.....I just feel akward, and out of place, Has anyone felt this way?
  9. Hi, i am currently taking a CNA class at a LTC, and we started our clinicals yesterday, I was assigned one patient, and the other CNA's told me to walk him to the bathroom and wash him up there while he was on the toilet... I was so programmed to do the bed bath, i totally blanked. He washed his face with a face cloth, and i washed his chest and back, arms, underarms, and hands, then put a clean shirt on him, then put a clean brief, and his pants and slippers on his feet, then had him stand up ...he said, "you forgot to wash me"... so i then cleaned his bottom, then pulled his pants up...I feel like i didn't do it right, I feel so bad, the patient was really sweet about it and could probably tell that i was learning.....:smackingf Can anyone explain the proper way to wash a patient in this situation, I have class tonight, and have the same patient....THANKS ALOT..... i just want to make sure i am doing it correctly..
  10. Hi Everyone, I am just curious as to your thoughts on this... I am currently taking a CNA class (doing very well), and start clinicals on monday, but i really want to go to nursing school to be a L&D nurse, I am not sure what path to take..... I have 3 young kids, and I am wondering if I should wait it out a while until they are all in school, or try to get into a nursing program now. I am not sure about the pre-reqs for ccri, and how the whole waiting list works...so i am not too sure where to apply, St. Joe's or CCRI, can someone please explain to me the pro's and con's of both programs,. .. ANy advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks alot:heartbeat

  12. Can anyone tell me the story of how you came to be a Labor and Delivery Nurse???? I am currently taking a CNA course and my goal is to eventually go to nursing school, and become a L&D nurse, ..... Do you have any advice for me? How did you manage going to nursing school, and family?? Thanks alot!!! :dncgbby::heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat
  13. Just call around to some long term care facilities in your area, (nursing homes) and ask if any of them offer a class, or if they know of anyone who does... sometimes they are even free. And you will get some experience along the way, which will help you out when you are looking for a job...That is what i did, and found a great program, I start my clinicals next week! I also put my career on hold to have a family, 3 kids later:1luvu::1luvu::1luvu:, I am going to classes, and eventually would like to be an RN.......Good luck! Let me know how it turns out
  14. Sorry Busia, I just couldn't help myself, I just got mad at some comments that were made, (not by you):flwrhrts:
