Medics in the ER

Can someone point me in the direction to find out info about positives of NREMT-P working in the ER? Our EMS is going to be combined with another local service soon so our medics will no longer be considered employed by our hospital. My husband has over 25 years of service and doesn't want to leave the hospital.

I understand the pros and cons of this idea but we all work very close with our medics and I feel it would be in the be best interst of the hospital and community to keep these very skilled and well trained medics.

I not looking for to start a turf war, I just want info to be able to address this subject with admistration with some sense of knowledge on the subject.

Most hospitals employ paramedics as emergency department techs. They are allowed to much more than a CNA, but work under the RNs. I don't know what the pay difference is.

I believe what the OP is referring to is that her husband's EMS service has been, until now, a subsidiary of/service of/directly owned by the local hospital ... but the hospital is now spinning it off to be absorbed into another existing EMS service.

This doesn't have to change the relationship between ER clinicians and EMS providers, nor does it really change any mutual goals, such as coordinated STEMI or stroke care. But it certainly does have implications for individuals like the OP's spouse, who will go from being a hospital employee with 25 years of service, to a brand new employee of another employer.
