Med surg

I've just graduated & I'm going to ills I've just graduated & now I'm going to start at pediatric med surg floor. But now I'm scared that I've forgot everything I learned in nursing school, my assessments, interventions, my skills, what if I don't know something or forgets what to do. This feeling is really terrifying me. Please help me here, I don't know if someone had a same feeling before starting a new job???

I think that's a completely normal feeling. How long will your training be? I think that your confidence will build in time. There is nothing like hands on learning. Having an awesome trainer/preceptor can make a world of difference.

Normal,

My nursing school instructors told us. Nursing school doesn't teach you everything you need to know to be a nurse.

Nursing school teaches you enough to be able to walk onto the floor and the real nursing education begins in that 1st job with a preceptor.

Don't be afraid to ask questions with your trainer

Don't fret! Your first job will make you feel like a student....as you can't learn everything in nursing school. You will feel like this for the first year you work. That is expected and normal. Look for opportunities to learn and ask questions, read and research. Every nurse has been down this road. Be patient and give yourself time!

Thanks to all for the helpful words of encouragement, I feel much better, my orientation might be for 2-3 weeks, & I'm also watching skills videos & refreshing my values & numbers !!!!
