Next fall I will start my med surg clinical. I have such a fear and I don't know how to explain. Can anyone give me any pointers on what to do on my three weeks break before class start for the fall in order to be ready for Med Surg. What is important to know as far as preparation? Please help me, I am so fricked out I don't what to do.

Med-Surge clinical is so much fun, don't be scared at all, its lecture that everyone mostly has troubles. Get very familiar with the perioperative phase, RA and OA hip/knee arthroplasty(sp), wound care, IM injections seemed to be popular on the med surg unit i was on. Then just learn all you can about pathos of different diseases, i seen a lot of pancreatitis, cholecystitis. But you'll have a blast and learn so much its what you make it

Just casually review A&P and patho. Don't drive yourself crazy, andy is right that med-surg is fun. You get to actually do all the things you talk about in class. If you know the type of floor(s) you're going to be on (i.e., oncology, ortho, renal, etc.), be sure to read up on them and their common drugs and treatments.
And remember this, all those calm, cool, collected and incredibly competent nurses you see? Well, they all started out scared too.

my first med-surg quarter was really geared toward diabetes, pvd, dvt, surgical nursing in general (sterile fields, etc.), fluid and electrolytes, and rheumatic diseases (lupus, gout, arthritis).
i'd review pt, ptt, and inr labs. they were big on these.
don't stress! you'll get into your groove and do just fine.
