MDS 3.0 Data Specs (Final) 10/30/09

MDS 3.0 INFO

Most of the recently posted dls are technical specs. The 1st link MDS 3.0 Item Subsets (V1.00) contains printable documents with the required subset of data items for each MDS 3.0 assessment and tracking document (e.g. admission, quarterly, annual, significant change, discharge, entry, omra start/end of therapy, etc).

'seems we have to wait 'til November to see the MDS 3.0 RAI User's Manual.

Please Note: Although this is the material that will be applicable with the October 1, 2010 implementation, CMS strongly encourages that all parties refrain from or delay conducting training until after the "Train-the-Trainer" sessions have been completed (scheduled for the spring 2010.).

thanks for the info!!!

 I am 'flabbergasted' at how many pages the comprehensive assessment has.

cant get anyone to do there part now in documentation, let alone do anything about section E or the new depression stuff yes I can not understand why more is better. what is sad to me is that this seems like it will only take more time away from the resident while we complete more paper work. We only have a social worker 12 hours a month good grief that just means more crap on the poor old nurse to do. I usually try to see the good in things but dont see how 27 paged assessment can be anything but extremely time consuming. and anytime they have a change you have to do that 27 page thing all over -- if I thought I would truly help our residents I would do it without problem but, will not get eye glasses for my residents or dental visits when they need them and have no money or PT for someone under 65 in my state that truly need it. Plus they are going to cut mental health stuff so everyone will be hitting us and trying to elope. yeah flabbergasted is not the half of it.....

I'm now trying to come up with the 'plan of attack' for when the 3.0 is implemented. I need to figure out where we're going to keep the much thicker MDS' that this 3.0 will print out. The current binders we have them in are going to be way too small for these new ones. My Supervisor seems to think that the start date is going to be pushed out further yet, and doesn't even want to acknowledge the changes we'll need to make.

yeah that is how my cooperate people are too!! when I mention a new training they say sure we want you to go to that but never say anything about covering the bill. and I have printed off some stuff and they just kind of let it go. very fustrating. I want to do a good job and yes I am probably anal (one surveyor even told me that lol) but if they want money seems like it would be good to make sure we dont make any mistakes.

hi.

cms is hoping to have web-based training available for all at no cost before mds 3.0 is implemented (unlike 2.0 that took ?4 years).

maybe now's the time to get an ehr in place--let admin know!

while you are printing "stuff" for the mds 3.0--be sure to make copies for your co-workers in social services, dietary, rehab and activities. there are some real shockers for them, too!

Yeah, I gave our social worker the final draft, her mouth dropped to the floor lol.

That will be great if we get web-based training and the no cost thing is a no brainer lol
