MDC Spring 2012 Part Time Program

Hello Future Nurses out there,

I have been accepted into the part-time RN program at MDC to begin in the spring (January 2012).

I'm reaching out to anyone interested in collaborating in a thread that is geared towards MDC Part Time RN students who will begin in Spring 2012. It seems like our class will be the first Part Time class starting in the spring. So, we're already making our first mark...

Here's hoping that we can start "meeting" each other here, pick each other's brain, encourage each other in preparing for this most exciting journey!

Mwen,

Did you receive a call from MDC Med-Campus, today? I did. It was odd. I didn't answer, and they left a message saying that although I was accepted to the PT program, they still didn't know if I was accepted to any of the other programs that I had applied to. I thought this was very strange, especially when my advisor said that I was ONLY accepted to the PT Spring program.

I'm going to call tomorrow to clarify things, let me know if you hear anything.:coollook:

Chanel360,

No, I did not receive a call...

I had applied only for the PT program. I'm sure curious to find out what they tell you. Hope there is no issue with the PT program this spring (I know they had to cancel it last spring)!

Oh no! I hope they don't! Lets see what they say..

Hi Chanel360,

Were you able to contact whoever called you? What did they say about the PT program?

Chanel and Mwen Thanks for your helpful tips :)

Hi Mwen,

Sorry for the late reply.. As you may know, things got kinda busy over here. Anyway, I called MDC and they told me that they had not send out all the responses for the programs that I had applied to (FT & Accelerated). Well, now, I know this is erroneous information because orientation was today, and I still have not received a response..LOL It's ok, I'm in the PT program and truthfully, that's all that matters! How was orientation for you? It was very informative IMO.. I got a bit carried away at the bookstore (I wanted to buy everything) LOL Thank god I composed myself and decided to buy my books online!

:nurse:

You're welcome Lynn! Glad to help!

Chanel360,

I wish we had met yesterday, we should have planned to meet...

LOL!! I did the same thing, I went to the bookstore and wanted to buy everything too! Since I had started buying some books online, I decided to compare prices and fair enough, much cheaper online. Anyway, I ended up buying the labcoat, the jacket (not very flattering...) for clinicals and the curriculum (sure hope the curriculum is worth the $51.25?!?!). I'm heading to UA this week-end to see if the supplies are cheaper there versus online (allheart.com). I hear stethoscopes go missing a lot, so I'm going to try to buy a wild color that cannot be mistaken! I'll let you know what I find and you do the same!

I agree that the orientation was very informative. I wasn't familiar with the campus so it was nice to find out about the resources that are available. I will be doing some more exploring of the campus after the ATI test on the 30th. :)

Lynn12,

My pleasure!

I bought 5 books from amazon for 230. I originally purchased the P&A book with the medical calculations workbook and had a bill of 180!!! I'm only missing one book and thats the book they had recommended that we rent.. I'm planning on being in debt before Xmas a total of $500! Lol

Yep! Big time! I estimate that between books, uniforms and supplies, I'll be out $600+ for sure! And then, another 1K in tuition and fees for the first semester!

:christmastree:Hello there...I am in the part time program as well. I met a couple girls at the orientation and then I also met a classmate in my CPR/BLS class.

I am working on getting everything I need. So far I have 3 of the books and the lab coat. I didnt buy the clinicals very attractive looking smock yet (ugh) because we wont have clinicals till next semester. Looking for a stethoscope, also want a color...do we need that for class or for clinicals??

Does anyone know what we are supposed to wear under the lab coat. I believe we have to wear the lab coat to campus for class.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone simce we will be together for the next 2 1/2 years.
