Hello everyone,
I am new to this nursing website, I have been to the site a few times. However, I have some questions for anyone planning on applying to MDC Generic RN program.
...well first of all I am 19 years old, I have recently finished my A.A. over the summer in Health Service Administration. However, I decided not to go that track, I preferred to be interactive with patients and treating them as well. I am currently working on my last 2 prerequisite for MDC RN program. I went to MDC and met with an advisor at the medical center campus. The advisor stated, since I have my A.A. in Health Service Administration already, he said MDC will wave all my general education requirement and just count my science classes. I am not too sure about this, has anyone been in this situation before? do they just count the GPA for the science classes, or my GPA for everything I have done? currently I have a 3.4 GPA including Economics classes and Accounting classes which I think will not be counted because they are for the Health Admin degree, but not too certain. My science classes GPA is a 3.8, not including my Micro and A&P II, which I will be taking this fall semester. Also, I have finished all the prerequisite need for the BSN program ( Statistics, College Algebra, Liberal Arts Math, Psychology, Sociology etc).
...PLEASE REPLY WITH ANY INFO ON THIS SITUATION, AND ANY ADVICE TO GETTING INTO THE GENERIC RN PROGRAM, SINCE IT IS SUCH A SELECTIVE PROCESS.
Thank you, :redbeathe

I agree with what the councelor said. My friend was in the same boat as you when we applied last year and she was told the same thing.
Personally speaking, when I was younger, I did not take college seriously. I made a 2 D's and it really hurt my CUM GPA. Luckily, I did well in my science courses and I think that helped me a lot because with a 3.26 GPA, I got into the nursing program.

Hi GTGyal...did you ever find out if they only count the science classes GPA or the overall? I also applied to the MDC Generic program for the spring.

Its ALL CUM GPA with a MAJOR emphasis on the science courses.
If you have a 3.5 and up..I would not stress so much...since you will more than likely get in...
I'm in my first semester....got in the first time I applied...with a 3.95 though...

Hey, did you get in?
I agree with what the councelor said. My friend was in the same boat as you when we applied last year and she was told the same thing. Personally speaking, when I was younger, I did not take college seriously. I made a 2 D's and it really hurt my CUM GPA. This is what I hate about this program, I had a 3.34 when I applied to MDC back in 2003 with all my sciences, and pre-reqs for the program, and I was rejected 5 times. and I kept applying because I always heard stories like yours about getting in with a 3.1, 2.9, 3.0---- so I don't know what happen why I did not get in. I even sent them a 3 page letter with a picture of my hospital badge as nursing assistant and how much I desired to be in the program.
I can't stand MDC-- I never ever want to step foot in any of their campuses ever again. when I was looking for BSN programs I never even thought for a second to go there. FIU is a way way better school than that thing.
