May be Relocating to Florida

U.S.A. Florida

Published

HI,

I am a pre nursing student @ my cc college in IL and was thinking about relocating to FL for nursing school. I would love to a warmer climate and have a change of location. I am just wondering are there any good direct entry private RN ASN program in FL? I am not sure how it is in FL but here in IL there are very few programs you have to have just about a 4.0 to get in. I have look into other programs in the midwest (states near IL like WI and IN) but I am just trying to keep my options open. If there is anyone from the midwest in moved to FL how to do you like? How is it different from the midwest? Any information is helpful.

Thanks

Go to http://www.facts.org and do a search. Once you put in the type of degree program you are looking for (BSN, ASN, public, private,...) it will bring up information on all the Florida colleges that offer it.

I grew up in Minneapolis, although I left 10 years ago. I moved to New Orleans where I worked on my first degree, and absolutely loved it there. The weather was great, until we had that little storm 21 months ago that sent my husband's job to Florida. I'm attending an ABSN program here in Tampa, and while I like my school so far (except that it's overcrowded - we don't have enough chairs for everyone - consequence of Florida's rock-bottom in state tuition), I don't care for living here. It's hard to meet people, you have to drive everywhere, traffic is awful, and the pay for nurses is among the worst in the country despite our skyrocketing cost of living. If you're ONLY looking into it for the weather, realize that there are other warm states out there. If you have family or friends here already, then you might have more of a reason to come down. Just make sure you do some research. Also, what's a direct-entry RN/ADN program? I thought direct entry generally referred to master's programs.
