Math Problem-Insulin

Published

Have a math test tomorrow...

Can someone please do this problem and tell me if I am doing it right?

Order:Insulin 5units/hr

Supply: 125u/50ml

Set the pump at ____________?

Let me know what you get so I can see If I got the right answer.

Thanks!

I arrived at an answer of 0.03mL per minute, but keep in mind that I am weak at dosage calculations.

1hr/60min. x 50mL/125u x 5u/1hr. = 250/7500 = 0.03mL per minute

Also, 0.03mL per minute is equal to 2mL per hour: 0.03mL x 60 min. = 2mL per hr.

50mL/125u x 5u/1hr = 250/125 = 2mL per hour

2mls/hr

0.03mls/min

You asked if we can tell you if you're doing it right, but I don't see your answer.... ??

Stock strength: 125u/50ml = 2.5u/ml.

You want to give 5u/hr (2.5u/ml x 2) so you want to give 2mls/hr.

Sorry... I didn't put my answer! But I did get 2ml/hr

which is the correct answer. I don't know why but I froze during the test and could not figure this out.

I just did it at home and it just seemed to easy, that's why I wanted the answer verified.

Thanks

We just had out math test for school and the easiest way to set up this problem is to use this formula...

On hand dose (mg, mcg, units) Dose ordered

__________________________ X ____________________

On hand volume (mL, Liters) Volume ordered

Just use that formula and cross multiply to solve for 'X'
